MasterChef: Chris eliminated. It’s Poh v Julie!

Beer merchant and hot favourite Chris Badenoch has divided viewers, but the judges have dashed his dream of becoming the winner of MasterChef Australia.

cbMasterChef Australia‘s first finale will be an all-girl affair following the elimination of Chris Badenoch from the TEN cooking contest.

41yo Melbourne resident Badenoch was considered a front-runner for the title, but was cut from the show after a lengthy cook-off with their own inventive dishes.

Joining the judges was cookbook queen Donna Hay.

It was a contentious decision given that he was defeated by the ever-popular Julie who did not complete all her dishes.

But beer merchant Badenoch has been a divisive contestant, with many fans of the show having difficulty with his abrupt style and attire. He has also been the subject of press articles, including as late as today, on his romantic life. The perils of reality television.

Matt Preston said to Badenoch: “You have been the competition’s most consistent performer but today let youself down. The execution of these three dishes let you down. Tragically that’s enough to send you home. We know we’ll be drinking your beer and eating your food in your beer bar in 6 months time. And there will be a beer book. No doubt. Thanks for the pigs head, for the hat, for the dry Melbourne humour. We’ll see you around.”

George Calombaris said: I’ve never said this to a man before but I love you!”

Gary Mehigan said: “You’ve impressed me and George many many times.”

Badenoch said: “I’m tired, I’m strung out and the pressure is ridiculous. To get to this point and not make the final two is devastating. It means everything to me.

“It’s hugely disappointing.” Chris said. “But Top 3 is an achievement and you will be eating in my establishment sooner rather than later. This experience has turned my life on its head and I won’t forget this. My future is bright, full of beer, and full of food, and I can’t wait.”

mca38yo Julie Goodwin from the NSW Central Coast will face off against 35yo Poh Ling Yeow from Adelaide for the inaugural title on Sunday night.

  1. I can not believe Chris has been[ elimina ] taken off the show. He is the only person [ cook, chef ] to me is realistic and down to earth with his cooking. Juile to me is yes a home cooker , [ big deal we can all at home do amazing things]. and as for Poh . Malasian cooking who cares. bring her to my home and i bet i’ll eat Chris or Juile’s food .before that rubish

  2. Yay! My two faves in the finale!
@jezza: “A true Aussie women”. First of all, it’s womAn. More importantly I thought racist perceptions like that had been erased long ago. Poh is as Aussie as Julie and all Australians.

  3. poh is artisitc with her food chris is focused with beer in recipies.julie is like a new version of margaret fulton.we all want to turn out a variety of tasty classic dishes like lamb scrambelled eggs good salad etc.julie has this talent to make a variety of tasty dishes even though she gets flustered. judges always find her food most palatable. that is what makes me go back.delicious tasting food!!

  4. Everyone has has a view, but The best cook lost tonight, I question the judges after consistent weeks of self admitted failure, Julie remains a competitor and will no doubt win with this type of support – Donna Hay! is it Girls vs Boys? – Good show but the judges have let us down. Personalities and passion yes, but be fair!

  5. Oh thank God for that. The judges must have been reading our comments. Lol. Haven’t watched the episode yet cos i was out but recorded it, now i will watch it with a smile knowing the outcome. Come on Poh bring the title home.

  6. Julie will win for sure because she will sell the most cook books and her recipes are more accessible to the general public.

But I think Poh is probably the better cook, in terms of her techniques and ability to cook different styles of food.

  7. Hi Julia, well done!We are all proud of you and so should your family and boys be.I don”t k. now you but think you great.good luck for sunday

  8. Somewhat disappoint he couldn’t even bring himself to say thank you to the judges. I really think it was Julie’s cookbook idea that saved her and it’s really quite a good idea, definite potential for huge sales there. I reckon she’s the odd-on favourite to win now.

Justine was my favourite but I’m happy enough with the outcome. Good luck to both girls!

  9. Of all the criticism against Chris, I for one maintain that he was truly the best of the all contestants. He was consistent performer and was always focused on the task at hand. I thought he was a bit hard done by tonight especially considering that Julie didn’t even finish plating up. I wish him the best of luck in all his future culinary adventures.

  10. Go Poh!

So glad Chris out. He’s so arrogant and looks very “dirty.”

Wow, Julie’s only 38 and Poh’s 35. Damn Poh looks hot for that age. There’s only three years difference between them!

  11. Love the show, but concerned that Julie has got by all week on personality and not ability…if she stuffs up that many times in her cafe it will last about a week! Go Poh!
