Skins cast facing axe again

The cast of Skins will be given their marching orders after they finish filming the fourth season.

E4-SkinsThey’ve done it again -or at least, they will do it again.

The current cast of UK drama Skins is shooting the fourth series, but after that the cast of teenagers will be given their marching orders, just as the original cast was axed after two series.

Speaking at an event in London on the weekend, the cast said they have seen four scripts in the fourth series, but were sworn to the secrecy of its contents.

All tried to put an optimistic spin on their destiny, by talking about exploring new acting opportunities and avoiding the risk of being typecast.

Another new cast would comprise the E4 series should it be recommissioned for its fifth series in 2011.

While Series Four is expected to air in the UK around January, SBS has been very slow in bringing Series Three to Oz.

It was last rumoured to be airing here in September.

  1. Do they give you any indication as to what happens to the Gen 1 cast? I think if anything, that will dissapoint me the most. Also, once Chris died, I kind of lost it then.

  2. I was pleasantly surprised by series three. Admittedly one of the characters annoyed me to no end and a few others needed more development (which happened throughout the season), but on the whole it was engaging and lived up to the ‘Skins’ hype.

Finally some sort of indication of the Australian air date! You have no idea how hard it is to find that out!

  3. Haha! I should’ve seen this happening! I wonder if Effy will still be there for season five too?

As for SBS1, I saw a ‘coming up in 2009’ promo during the cricket with Skins featured & Madman’s website have the SBS branded DVD listed as ‘coming soon.’ Yet, it looks like (from this site) Entourage is getting their traditional 10pm Monday slot from August 31st… :/

  4. as a guy that is getting older i don’t think i will watch the show. seeing teens making similar mistakes over and over again is not a turn on. i liked the first series though. the lad that played sid was a crack up. and if i’m not mistaken i saw the girl that played cassie was on a miss marple a couple of weeks back

  5. I love Skins. As a fan who has watched all 3 seasons of this show, I can honestly say that changing the cast is a good thing. Skins is about that journey from teenager to adulthood. Sure, it leaves a lot of questions unanswered, but that’s life.

It’s also interesting comparing the characters from season 1 & 2 to those in season 3. You kind of have a couple of ‘new’ characters which have almost the same attitudes or personalities of those in season 1 & 2, but who haven’t gone through that change and growing up process which the show follows. They also have different complications and different types of people to communicate with.

I just wish some Aussie TV channels would start showing these shows as quick as they air overseas. I mean, they can get ‘the view’ from a couple of days ago on TV today, but can’t screen the latest primetime material quickly?

    Not good enough.

  6. I just couldn’t get into season 3. It wasn’t that the characters were different, they were just so unlikable or uninteresting (or both) — I thought the episode with Cook and the gangster to be particularly weak in comparison to the first two series.

  7. I still haven’t finished seeing all of season 2, Foxtel were pretty slow to play the first season and I’m not even sure if they’ve got any plans to show the second….or maybe they’ve already done it and I’ve missed all the promo…oh the dramas..

  8. I have already seen season 3 and it really isn’t that bad.
I think I may be in the minority here, but I think that changing the cast every couple of seasons is a good thing. I don’t want to see the original characters settling down and having kids, that’s not the true spirit of Skins.
Skins is all about going crazy and making the best of your teen years before you grow up.
It would make sense for the show to ditch their characters after they have graduated school, it brings in a whole new generation of characters that you can love, hate and even relate to.
It may not be as awesome as Gen 1 Skins, but Gen 2 isn’t that bad either.

  9. No big loss. Season 3 was awful. Jal’s line in season 2 “let’s build a wall and tear it down” couldn’t ring more true for Skins 3. Just as the characters are being developed, the writers throw all continuity and characterisation out the window for the sake of stirring up some drama through the wonderful catalyst that is sex.

So much potential wasted in the hands of young, voyeuristic writers.

  10. No surprise, but they really should have given each cast a three series cycle instead, as just as you begin to explore their characters, they’re gone.

And they got away with a complete recast once – they’ll be lucky to get away with it again.

  11. I’m looking forward to seeing Series 3 of this great show.

The dvd for this series is listed as being released on September 10 – so one would assume that this would be shown on SBS around that time.

Speaking of delayed series…….has anyone heard any news as to when Series 3 of the British detective show Lewis will be shown?

Ch. 7 showed the first 2 series last year back to back, but since then nothing…….

  12. I saw all of season 3 when it aired in the UK, but still haven’t managed to get around to watching it.

For some reason, the almost complete cast change removed all urgent motivation to watch it. I’m sure I’ll get there someday.
