Great show, but two too many Newtons.

  2. David Knox December 24, 2009 at 10:34 pm -

    Terry Gill.

Can someone please settle my curiosity and tell me who is playing Santa Clause. I know his face but cannot find his name on any of the carols by candlelight pages.

The complete list is now up…and an excellent mix of young and older performers

    What is Humphrey doing there.

A better choice in his absence would be Charlie Sheen

From a young persons perspective- quite a good line up!! I am a teacher and see every day how popular these idol people are that you guys constantly ‘bag’. The younger generation have grown up with these people!!

For me, I am looking forward to Paulini- such a beautiful angelic voice!! Perfect for Christmas carols!!

I hope there is a tribute on the night to Brian Naylor who perished in the Black Saturday fires.

Not only was he a legend in Melbourne television, he was the Nine Network’s first host of Carols By Candlelight once Channel O (before they were Channel 10) sold the rights, and was the host until Ray Martin took over in the mid-80s.

Great to see that Silvie Paladino and Anthony Callea will be back again this year, these two are a real highlight of every carols for me.

    @ Amber

Seems Seven snagged Stan (lol) for their Carols in the Domain next weekend. This is going to be the first time in many years that i miss it :( And they always have a great cast line up, esp this year with Ronan Keating *sigh*

Why don’t they start these at 8:30pm. There would be considerably less light and where is the winner of Idol 2009 Stan. Why is Humphrey there, I thought nine had him on a limbo. And are we allowed to know who portrays Santa Claws? I also have to say the usual suspects are a tad better than the Idols. Those Idols expect screaming teens with fake candles, they don’t know the classic Carols by Candlelight.

@Cris when is Dennis Walter not performing at the carols by candlelight?

  13. Tepee December 9, 2009 at 9:10 pm -

Who cares if some of them came from Idol? Guy, Anthony, Ricki-Lee and Paulini all have talent and are wonderful singers. Not too sure about Carl Risely though…

I’d given up visiting the VA site every second day to see if the artists had been added. I ran the names as supplied to me by Nine. I believe Tim Campbell and Matthew Newton are two more on the list…

While Vision Australia organisation is a charity for the visually impaired, they definately have great vision & the forsight to see these people as artists in their own right not as idols. What more do they have to prove, all of these guys have been in the industry for many many years, Anthony Callea the ambassador for the second time, has been involved in this Carols for the past 6 years. Other countries such as the US and the UK, treat the artists that are discovered through Idol as artists. Heck they even win Grammy Awards!

If people don’t start excepting them as artists in their own right, where will the Ross Wilson’s the Glen Shorrick’s the Kate Cebrano’s of the future be? stop living in the past, its a whole new world.

@DavidKnox – Just for further information David this is not the full lineup, if you go to the Vision Australia website you will see some of the other artists and then some.
    - Marina Prior
    - Sylvie Paladino
    - Denis Walter
    - Lorin Nicholson
    - Australian Girls Choir
    - National Boys Choir

and believe there are still others not yet listed. Remember this is for Charity, for the blind and visually imparied who need VA’s assistance. Its always a wonderful event with a lovely family feel. visionaustralia.org/info.aspx?page=1186

  17. Nate December 9, 2009 at 2:23 pm -

Agree with michael*oz – no Marina Prior or Sylvie Paladino = appallingly bad line-up. It isn’t Carols without at least one of them to sing the feature songs

  18. Taz December 9, 2009 at 2:21 pm -

As David said ‘the list includes’…it isn’t complete.

Sivie Paladino, Marina Prior, Hi 5, the National Boys Choir…all the usual suspects are listed on Vision Australia’s site.

  19. Michael K December 9, 2009 at 1:52 pm -

Oh come on people lighten up, its Christmas! :) Part of the appeal of Xmas Eve carol’s is them wheeling out the old favourites. I think the most pressing question – where the heck is Legs Burchmore??? How can she not attend Carols? PS I’m sure Callea will do an amazing job as he always does.

  20. John Jackson December 9, 2009 at 1:02 pm -

Yeah.. great to see Humphrey there! I was wondering how he was going lately.

  21. noblet turtle December 9, 2009 at 12:44 pm -

    where is denis walter…the voice?

  22. Lewis December 9, 2009 at 12:31 pm -

No Denis Walter? No Marina Prior? No Silvie Paladino?

    Horrible line up.

  23. Justin December 9, 2009 at 11:43 am -

I wonder who will win Australian Idol? Oh wait its carols by candlelight. So easy to get the two muddled up.

  24. Amber December 9, 2009 at 10:44 am -

    Where’s Stan?!?!

  25. CrAig December 9, 2009 at 10:18 am -

I love how Nine and Seven slag off Idol every year saying there is no talent on the show, and yet they are quick to pick up its offspring….

  26. michael*oz December 9, 2009 at 9:56 am -

What????? No Silvie Paladino or Marina Prior?

  27. Byron December 9, 2009 at 9:05 am -

    crap lineup of ‘stars’

  28. Michael December 9, 2009 at 8:40 am -

Nine as usual scraping the bottom!

  29. tomothy December 9, 2009 at 8:33 am -

Certainly is ‘must miss’ TV. I think I’ll skip it again for the 15th year in a row.

  30. Leon December 9, 2009 at 7:49 am -

-> Take that Ch10 with the Idols!
-> Why would Humphrey show up there, He’s had the pants sued off him!
