Returning: Torchwood

By David Knox on December 16, 2009 / Filed Under Programming 14

twAs previously noted, the third series of Torchwood is coming to ABC2 in January.

Having previously aired on the UKTV channel, this five-part series was ripping fun, and unlike the previous two seasons, takes one storyline rolled out, miniseries style. Although on ABC2 it will still play as one episode a week, it’s definitely worth catching if you haven’t already seen it.

1965: Twelve children are gathered together on a deserted moorland, before being surrounded by a harsh, bright light… and then they are gone!

Today: All over planet Earth, children stop moving. Stop playing. Stop laughing.
Stop everything. Then, as one, they begin to speak with the same voice, announcing to the governments of the world the imminent arrival of a new alien threat. “We Are Coming, We Are Coming…”

As the British Government closes ranks, it issues a death warrant against Captain Jack and Torchwood. Now forced to flee for their lives, it becomes clear to the Torchwood team that this isn’t the aliens’ first visit to Earth, and a terrible price is going to be paid for sins of the past…

It premieres 8:30pm Friday January 8th on ABC2.

Does this mean that they have to find yet another, more inventive
way to torment Captain Jack? Wow… one for the sadists out there…:-)

Sounds like it’s worth a go – especially, no offence Kris, if it’s a different show from seasons one and two!

So I’ll jump in. But this is your last chance, Rusty and co…

3rd season is amazing – luckily was able to watch all 5 episodes back to back. Do hope they do a 4th but given the rate they ended season 2 and 3 i am not too sure they have too many more seasons left !!!!

    I wish I hadn’t bothered with series 3.

I really liked 1 & 2, it had it’s low points of course, most shows do. But *this* was not Torchwood. Everything I loved about TW wasnt there and it was a major disappointment.

My one regret now that I’ve watched it, is that I can’t unwatch it

I found Series 2 much better than Series 1 and the third series continues in this vein. I hear Russell is talking about producing a fourth series but, without wanting to give too much away, it would have to be a quite different show!

Series 1 & 2 are admittedly a bit “clunky”, both as regards
acting & story lines. Series 3 is smoother, but rapidly
changes from Global threat to its normal tunnel vision on
South Wales which weakens the overall story. Still fun
    though.

Ive read reviews from people that didn’t really like 1 and 2, but loved 3.

    I wouldn’t say i loved 1 and 2, some episodes i hated, but I loved 3.

I’ve heard a lot of great things about season three, but I was burned by the first two seasons – patchy at best, for me. Is there anyone out there who has seen season three, enjoyed it, but disliked the first two?

The 3rd season is brilliant – my only complaint about it was that it wasn’t long enough!

The writing is fantastic and the acting is superb – what more could you want?

ABC2 should air this over one week, as it originally aired. But I guess this is better than nothing.
