Gone: Curb Your Enthusiasm

By David Knox on February 2, 2010 / Filed Under Programming 42

Uh oh.

GO! is dabbling with its schedule now that ratings are returning.

That’s bad news for Curb Your Enthusiasm which has been dropped from Sunday nights effective immediately. It leaves four episodes in the balance.

Instead the 1986 movie Police Academy 3: Back in Training will air at 10:30pm. Police Academy 4 airs a week later.

When launching the channel last year, a GO! executive promised media shows wouldn’t be taken off air, but given new timeslots. Nobody believed him at the time.

GO! is also filling up fast on a lot of episodes of The Big Bang Theory including 4 episodes on February 11 from 7:30pm – 9:30pm (yep, double ER just became single ER again).

We know this digital channel programming this is new but would it be too much to ask to brand one show on one channel please? Is Big Bang a Nine show or a GO! show?

Updated: GO! advises Curb will return when Dante’s Cove ends, Monday 8th March with ep 7.

Why do all media stations in Australia keep changing their viewing times. It’s pathetic and very annoying. Why would you take Curb Your Enthusiasm off the air and replace it with Police Academy?? Haven’t we all seen Police Academy a thousand times?? I suppose it could be worse it could be another repeat of Crocodile Dundee (nothing wrong with the movie, but you get sick of it being aired every three months). Thanks Go! I will Go! to bed early tonight!

I see – so this is why there was no curb last nigh.

Why Go!? Why mess it all up?

Pulling CYE is inexcusable. Undoubtedly a hilarious show…substituted by Police Acadamy 3…are you kidding me??? GOtv obviously has an infantile sense of humour and couldn’t give a stuff about it’s viewers when the advertised schedule in all the newspapers had CYE in the schedule.

I love Curb your Enthusiasm having watched all 6 seasons & now have been left mid season by GO who I thought were clever enough to show this great show but have have shown no taste at all in axing it without notice (It was listed in Sun Herald TV Guide). Makes you wonder why bother with TV 7 just switch 100% to DVD.

I have been living in Australia for four years and have to say that the way television is run in this country is the worst I have ever seen..there is absolutely no thought given to scheduling..they just remove programs without telling anybody and replace them with ancient reruns. Every free to air channel does it and I am sick to death of it. I would rather pay a nominal amount every year and get decent TV.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of the all time great TV comedies. Would be nice if they finished showing the season instead of chopping and changing times. Apparently it is returning on Mon 8th March..lets see..I will believe it when I see it.

    So happy i didn’t wait for Channel9 /GO…

Go! had an unbeatable lineup on Sunday nights when it had South Park, Curb and Weeds, but I’ve got no reason to watch it at all now.

If they’re happy to flog Seinfeld ep’s about ten times a day, why not let its ‘Curb’ cousin build the same fan base?

(….Nine programmer scratches head and says “‘Build’?? Whats that mean?”….)

    March.

  9. vinny February 2, 2010 at 7:15 pm -

Is that this Monday or next month Monday ?

  10. Stephen H February 2, 2010 at 6:54 pm -

Also I know your the one who reports on programming changes David and let me just say what a fantastic job you do but if it is alright I like to tell everyone that on the GO facebook page the Go Tv person is saying a new series of The Bachelor will start at the end of this month and Side Order Of Life returns mid march.

  11. Goonies February 2, 2010 at 4:44 pm -

Does this mean the Big Bang eps that are on Go! are repeats of the new season?

I can still completely avoid ch 9 and not miss any Big Bang?

I wonder how quickly they will bring Weeds back for S5? S6 is being made at the moment and is the last one – hopefully we will see it all before the year 2015.

  12. bonrad February 2, 2010 at 2:48 pm -

I don’t think I can keep watching TV anymore. It’s too hard to keep up with all the changes. I’m going to rent/buy the DVDs of anything I like from now on.

Vinny the Bachelorette was played out in full so I will give them that however you could add Bridesiller to the list. 7two has if flaws yet I do feel it offers more yes The UK sitcoms are gone however I do believe they will return and Reaper will probably be back once 24 moves to single episodes.

  14. Andrew B February 2, 2010 at 1:59 pm -

@ vinny – you can read about the Playlist here: http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2010/01/the-playlist-talks-tv.html

  15. Paull February 2, 2010 at 1:42 pm -

Contrary to what we first believed, more channels does not equal more choice. Bring back the days of single channels and introduce a fourth commercial network.

  16. Craig February 2, 2010 at 1:34 pm -

Playlist is a short weekly entertainment show, about 5 minutes in length.

  17. vinny February 2, 2010 at 1:19 pm -

    Should add to that list

Gone South Park, Father of the Pride and The Bachelorette.

  18. Ellis February 2, 2010 at 1:14 pm -

Sigh! Yet another great show gone from Nine’s schedule. I would like someone to name one show in Nine’s posession that they haven’t either rescheduled, removed with minimal notice or spliced in repeats in between new episodes.

I too was one of those people who was watching Go! (and 7Two) when it was first launched, but have really slimmed my watching back in the last month or so. The programming is becoming too erratic, and the TV guides are becoming too inconsistent (I’ve noticed a couple of times now when movies they say they’re going to play don’t get played, or movies are being shown later than scheduled). That being said, I now really only watch Go! and 7Two for movies….

  19. tomothy February 2, 2010 at 1:11 pm -

I wonder if Nine will one day realise what they are doing to GO!, and do something about it, and rename it to Come Back!!

  20. Bazza February 2, 2010 at 12:51 pm -

Can someone at Nine explain to me how re-runs of pretty average old movies, that have already been aired more times than is warranted, will raise ratings more than a first run fairly original comedy series?

Oh and @Scott, we already have Ten2, it’s called One HD (or One Digital).

Ten just clone their HD channel to their second and newer SD channel, instead of cloning their HD channel to their legacy SD channel, like all the others do. All stations have two channels now (more if you’re ABC) and they’re spread over three transports streams.

  21. vinny February 2, 2010 at 12:32 pm -

@Andrew B – What is “The Playlist” on Show case ?

  22. Scott February 2, 2010 at 12:27 pm -

Sunday nights have just gone from wow to meh… Weeds is gone, Curb is gone, I’m sure South Park will be on the way out soon too?? I was so happy when GO! was launched but that seems like an eternity ago now and they feel like a completely different channel. Disappointed. Hopefully TEN2 will launch soon and fix my blues.

  23. Nick February 2, 2010 at 12:21 pm -

Im so pi**ed off about this. I own the first six seasons on DVD an have been watching season 7 on Go and now they take it off half through. Absolute morons. All the best shows get taken off. I dont care if they put it on at 3am, I’ll record it on my PVR. Just put it back on!!!!

  24. TomK February 2, 2010 at 11:57 am -

Les Sampson was on The Playlist last night and he said specifically that Curb and ER are a ‘great fit for the channel (GO!)’ and that they planned on keeping them goin till the end of the season…
wonder how long ago that was recorded..

  25. Jules February 2, 2010 at 11:44 am -

Just when you thought 9 management/programming couldn’t sink any lower, or be more stupid. It beggars belief.

  26. Andrew B February 2, 2010 at 11:36 am -

According to Nine’s own Les Sampson – who just appeared on “The Playlist” on Showcase this morning, Curb Your Enthusiasm will remain in the schedule until the season ends.

Wonder how far in advance these “Playlist” shows are recorded?

  27. tasmanian devil February 2, 2010 at 11:24 am -

Well there “GOes” the only show I watch at the moment on GO. At the time of launch, the name GO seemed a bit cheesy, but now it is quite fitting.

Also, when can we expect to see the Inbetweeners? It’s been a while since it was first announced.

  28. mikeys February 2, 2010 at 10:58 am -

Credibility = a big, fat Zero… Sorry Go, you are now Nine2.0 (ie you suck!).

  29. Stephen H February 2, 2010 at 10:55 am -

Why couldn’t Police Academy 3 air at 11:00 it was going to anyway. Also how do you get to be a programmer for a network anyway I mean it seems anyone could do a better job then these jokers? I mean why does Go always have to suffer because 9 is such a poor excuse for a network it seems they have learnt nothing from about a year to 6 months ago.

  30. vanessa February 2, 2010 at 10:36 am -

No No No!!! How can they do this to me. Curb is one of the funniest shows around.

I thought i with GO they may leave shows put, but obviously i was in some kind of dream land. I will just have to buy it or watch elsewhere. Go have lost me now i am officially Gone!

  31. dave February 2, 2010 at 10:26 am -

I thought it was too good to be true – first Entertainment tonight was pulled off mid award season and new shows – and now Curb. Adding insult to injury, I reckon season 7 is the best since season 3! And they wonder why there is so much illegal downloading of shows!

  32. ross. February 2, 2010 at 10:14 am -

Oh c’mon Channe 9l! You guys really suck.

  33. Paull February 2, 2010 at 10:13 am -

I went from watching hours of GO! each week back when it launched, to watching only one show. That’s right, from ten or so shows down to one. As far as I’m concerned GO could disappear from the airways and I would barely notice.

  34. BG February 2, 2010 at 9:59 am -

ahhhh sums up the state of programming at Nine (and what they do to GO!).

would any sane person actually think “ratings are back, so let’s put on a Police Academy movie, that’ll earn us some kudos”

hmmm, how about this for an idea, build an audience through consistant scheduling, not quick and erratic decision making.

try to be nice to your audience, rather than having them voting with the remote and thinking “well this channel can GO! and get…..”

  35. Billy February 2, 2010 at 8:58 am -

Curb Your Enthusiasm was the only show on GO I watched. ( Season 7 episodes)
It was the first time episodes of it were screening on Aussie TV before the dvd is released. I was happy to finally make use out of GO. and now the reason is gone.
and it will be the dvd release that I will have to depend on again.
    Go is gone !!

  36. tomothy February 2, 2010 at 8:46 am -

I have given up on GO! There is nothing I want to watch on that channel. GO! has gone from a youth orientated channel to utter rubbish. Same with 7TWO. I assumed they got the name 7TWO, because all their ‘new shows’ are two years old, and anyone who has access to them by other means have already watched them.
David is absolutely right, nobody believed that GO! would stick to their programming and continue to show a series in full.

  37. Damon February 2, 2010 at 8:40 am -

I know this is a stupid thing, but i hate how they were cutting the credits and for some episodes, the opening titles. Oh Well, guess i’m going to have to download the rest of the series.

  38. Craig February 2, 2010 at 8:08 am -

Are you kidding they remove new eps of a highly acclaimed show for a Police Academy movie!

Along with what they did to Side Order of Life it looks like nothing has changed over at Nine/GO! in the programing department, bad move Nine.

  39. Bogues February 2, 2010 at 7:57 am -

FFS GO! How can people keep up. First ER was 10:30pm, then 9:30pm, then a double at 8:30pm and now a single episode at 9:30pm.

  40. Steve Roderick February 2, 2010 at 7:16 am -

It’s such a stupid move, i was so happy to watch Curb Your Enthusiasm and then South Park 2 weeks ago back to back. They kind of ruined my enjoyment of watching GO! that night with this change.

  41. Stephen H February 2, 2010 at 6:12 am -

I’m so sick of this channel its not funny I mean they got a 3.9 % share as someone said in the rating thread more then the other digital channels combined and it is still not enough. Also Curb Your Enthusiam was a repeat of the episode that aired on channel 9 however I don’t expect the brain boxes at 9 to remember that. Also because Big Bang Therory are repeats on Go the only show I really give a damn about is Vampire Diaries so I suppose I can look forward to its demise oh well if I need to get Foxtel to eventually see this show then so be it.

  42. bindi February 2, 2010 at 4:58 am -

the changes are getting to be as bad as 9, they better be careful that they don’t burn their bridges on this fresh start that GO gave them. so far stuff hasn’t gone missing for too long so I haven’t been that upset but they are heading into dangerous territory.
