Sneak Peek: ABC News 24 studio

Here's a peek at what the ABC News 24 studio will look like...

Here’s a peek at what the ABC News 24 studio will look like, according to Facebook and Twitter.

The new studio has been verified by ABC employees on personal Facebook pages, but the photo was later removed.

ABC Management has been very hush hush about some of their plans, and there are strict social networking rules for its employees.

The channel is due to launch “mid year” with July 5 rumoured to be the date in question.

  1. The reason it looks like the ten set in sydney Ben is because they are both based off of the BBC News look. For some reason in sydney Ten decided to make theres similar to BBC but ABC have a reason, because they have a very similar format, and they are basically the same.

  2. ABC to have a secure contract until the new radio studios of 774 ABC Melbourne, VIC Regional Radio & Radio National.

The new television production studios at ABC Melbourne to the new Southbank home is at independent studios.

Expands to the Spicks & Specks studio, ABC3’s commissioning and programming will be out of its hosting, presentation, online and links done from ABCTV’s Melbourne studios and the Triple J youth network at radio studios in Southbank

  3. This is the only set that will be used. It will only ever be single headed at the desk. This photo was taken from the atrium looking in at the set.

  4. I for one can’t wait for this channel to launch. I was hoping it would be operating in time for the UK election next week, but that now seems unlikely.

A FTA 24 hour news channel is exactly what we need. I want to switch on my TV on a Saturday morning, or when getting home after a night out, and be able to get a quick news update. There is no better channel than ABC to provide this as they actually report the news, unlike 7 and 9 who show very little actual news.

  5. It does look really small and dark. I think a brighter, airier studio would be better but nothing’s official yet. I’m interested in the logo too. Will it have its own colour, how prominent will the squiggle be (if it’s there at all), will it match the other logos etc.?

  6. Looks a bit too plastic. At least it looks cheap, I was worried all of their scripted production budget would be used for this wasteful whimsical idea of their 24 hour news service.

So folks in case you missed the newspaper, the net, SBS, ABC1, Seven, Nine, Ten, 7PM project and various local rags, you now have news coming at you from a completely different channel, all for the cost of moving Australia in line with the rest of the western world technologically!

  7. No doubt a certain Sky News CEO will have something to say, he should be concentrating on making his news service better.

The ABC set looks modern hopefully there will be more sets like the open news room. Looking forward to the launch.

  8. Agreed @David Knox, RT @David S, because the launch of an Australian News channel is a fist for FTA in Australia, the ABC and Sky will be competing against each other for quality and content everyday. Although I think that much of the content will already be decided especially if they simulcast the 730 report, The Midday Report, Lateline and Lateline Business.

  9. It’s a set. Big deal, why all the fuss? Seriously, all sorts of secrecy rules for a set! Ooh don’t let anyone see what it looks like, they might laugh at us. We are already. Are they scared someone might steal its ‘look’? LOL!

  10. They can present the news from a cardboard box for all it really matters. Granted the cardboard box would have to be weather proofed. It’s the quality of programming and reporting that matters.

  11. That’s a cool looking set… it’ll be great when we get 24/7 news, free to air.

But… the desk there is next to a window… do you know where the studio is? And what kind of public access there is to that window?

  12. My initial reaction is that this is a lot smaller and darker than I had imagined. I was thinking they’d make use of the terrific atrium space at Ultimo to add depth to the set, or at least for the odd fly-over. I had envisaged a much lighter, brighter and open set. This looks like a smaller version of Ten’s Sydney set and a bit of an homage to the current BBC News sets. It’s hard to see from one pic how they will use it (ie what the presenter angles, etc, will be)

  13. That’s it? It’s tiny!
Looks like a min Ken & barbie toy TV new set!
There is not even room to interview someone at that desk.
That must be A set for one of their shows, but not The set.
The main set would have to be much larger to accommodate studio guests and double header news. Also I thought it was going to be open news room style in the ABC Lobby in Ultimo, NSW?
My guess this is just one of many sets.
