East West 101 wins Gold in New York

This week a Logie, now East West 101 wins a Gold Medal for Best MiniSeries at the New York Festivals International Television and Film Awards.

Fresh from winning Most Outstanding Drama at Sunday’s Logie Awards, SBS drama East West 101 has won a Gold Medal for Best MiniSeries at the New York Festivals International Television and Film Awards.

The awards include entries from over 30 different countries in news, documentary and entertainment programming. The drama beat entries from Germany, Russia and Spain. Kris Wyld and Steve Knapman, who were unable to attend the Logies as a result of a clash with the NY Festivals, were on hand to receive the award.

SBS Managing Director Shaun Brown said, “After beating out massive Australian dramas like Underbelly and Packed to the Rafters, East West 101 has now beaten out some of the world’s best work to secure Gold.

East West 101 is a story about diversity and there is no better broadcaster to back this series in Australia than SBS.”

SBS’s Director of Content, Matt Campbell said, “Critics across the world have recognised the quality of East West 101. It is captivating television with brilliant writing and direction as well as a stellar cast and crew.

“SBS is incredibly proud to be associated with East West 101 and we look forward to working with Steve, Kris and the cast and crew on the third instalment of this amazing series.”

On Sunday night the AFI-winning drama also saw Don Hany win a Silver Logie for Most Outstanding Actor.

Perhaps it might now be a good time for SBS to consider running the second season again, given that last time it was slated against impossible competition in the form of Packed to the Rafters.

  1. Steve Knapman and co are bloody legends. Love the show. Thanks for the entertainment. Congratulations on all the awards. You all deserve it!!

  2. Wow – certainly deserves all these awards as it is the best drama show that Australia has ever made. An amazing cast and well produced – but what about the director – Peter Andrikidis – everything he directs seems to win awards but he never seems to get any credit and is often forgotten?? Congratulations Peter – you are the best!!

  3. Kris Wyld and company went above an beyond. I’ve been fortunate to follow this series in the U.S. and have found it to be intelligent television at its best! Well deserved recognition.

  4. Congrats to everyone who works on the show. You guys are clearly making quality drama and it’s about time you got some more recognition.

  5. Hmmm, so it really is that good? I’ve loved Remote Area Nurse and The Circuit, but for some reason the EW101 promos never made it look very compelling to me. I’m going to have to check it out now, if it’s half as good as people say then I’m in for a treat.

  6. This is clearly the best drama on Australian television yet nobody watches it & sadly the media all but ignores it. If only it got half the media coverage of Underbelly, Hey Hey , Rush or the 7pm Project? Perhaps if it were made in Melbourne?

  7. I’m glad that this great show won the Logie, the AFI and now the New York award for best Drama. It’s a great show, and and happy that SBS is going to make a 3rd season.

A shame that it was against Packed to the Rafters last year, and almost no-one watched it.
