Returning: Time Team

…and this time it’s not the American version.

The UK original series of Time Time with Tony Robinson will return to the ABC this month.

From delving into early Christian history at the heart of Westminster Abbey to unearthing an entire Roman town in Wiltshire, the Team‘s pursuit of all things archaeological once again takes them the length and breadth of the UK.

In episode one Professor Mick Aston and the team investigate one of Britain’s greatest historic landmarks – among the most famous sites Time Team has ever been invited to – Westminster Abbey. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of Parliament Square, the archaeologists have three days to pin down the location of a lost sacristy. It’s believed to be a stronghold built by Henry III almost 800 years ago and said to have housed the biggest collection of treasure this side of the Alps.

Under the watchful eye of the Abbey’s clergy and thousands of tourists the diggers’ attempts to find this important building are continually thwarted by the driving London rain and centuries of later building work. Surprisingly, by the 18th century, a whole row of houses and workshops had been built right up against the Abbey!

But the team eventually pick through the later buildings to discover their medieval target, only to find out it wasn’t what everyone expected. Over three days the team redraw the plan of the magnificent building constructed by Henry III and find tantalising evidence of an even earlier religious settlement – a pair of beautifully preserved thousand-year-old burials just a metre below the Abbey verge.

It returns 6pm Tuesday May 18th on ABC1.

bit harsh about the US version – its still all about the same thing..and better than 90% of the stuff that’s on….but UK T/T is still better…………..Helen Geake is an absolute joy !!!!

In common with other people, I did not warm to the US version – knowledgeable, earnest but rather boring so pleased that the BBC version is back.

I have really missed Time Time. It is such an intriguing ‘detective’ series, and the interweaving of all the different threads of information to create the picture is a fascinating illustration of a process.
Tonight’s was vintage TT – a real mystery about the the Abbey that exposed even more layers than they hoped for. Far better than any Dan Brown stuff.
    Thank you ABC

About time the team have returned. I really wasn’t impressed by the American version.

    I’m looking forward to it.

Yeah, I wasn’t that taken by the US version either. They just don’t do the whole history thing as well as the Brits. Hope Phil’s back and in good digging form!

Great news. Good on the ABC. I prefer The History Channel’s episodes in 4:3 from 1999 than the US version.

It hasn’t taken the ABC that long at all guys, the new series (which airs from May 18th) is the latest from the Uk, and has only been airing for 3 weeks there. So actually the ABC have been really fast.. So good on the ABC for getting it to us so quickly.

Yeah, what took so long? The US version sucks.
