Australia's Got Talent semi final with Grant Denyer had several set-ups that looked like a dead ringer for another show.

Last night’s Australia’s Got Talent semi final with Grant Denyer had several set-ups that looked like a dead ringer for another show that used to be helmed by the same producer.

Still, it also had some very talented acts, notably 15-year-old singer Bobby Andonov and seven year old pianist Shuan Hern Lee. And it also had some pretty fancy production values.

This year she show has modified its finals in keeping with the UK format. The voting lines open at the top of the show and close at 12 noon on Fridays. The top 3 acts return to the next semi final record where the act with the highest vote is put through to the Final. The two remaining acts (2nd & 3rd) are then put up to the judges choice – one through to the Final but one goes home.

The top three acts from the 4th semi final then return at the top of the Final and two of these will go through. The Final will again be in two parts.

…and could someone please get Grant Denyer a smaller microphone?

  1. I think theres a few people that are doing AGT that did idol. EP, director, Lighting designer, Set designer. I think the idea of many hosting positions is to keep it fresh, so its not the same thing every seg

  2. The set is based on the English Version. All the screens and such are based on the English Set. Idol was based on the American Set. It had a screen. The Australian AGT version actually has Less screens than the english version.

    You should also mention…
It has stairs so that is copying Big Brother. It had fruit in it , so surely that was copying master chef. It has Danni, so its copying X Factor. It has Judges so thats copying “Pot of Gold” (showing my age). It had guys in bad animal costumes which is surely a rip-off of Play School. It had lots of dancers in Bright costumes which is copying just about everything. It has a desk with 3 buzzers which is soooo “Sale of the Century”.

OMG! I just remembered Big Brother had a screen too!!!!

Its a conspiracy I tell ya!!

  3. They need to be a bit more careful about what clips they choose of each contestant for the voting – I turned in after Top Gear waiting for Greys, and I thought that overall, based on the clips, that it seemed a pretty appalling collection of “no talent”. Sometimes that can be a downfall with certain contestants – I noticed that with SYTYCD sometimes – if they left the one dodgy moment in, the contestants could go home because if you didn’t remember (or didn’t see) the whole routine, and that was the clip replayed, you would choose not to vote.

Also, I did catch the rollerskating one in full – I’m hoping that looked impressive in person, because on the tv (apart from that one guy doing the massive flip) – it looked pretty average – just skating from one side to the other with the occasional hand gestures – not standing ovation material.

  4. very entertaining viewing.

kyle is right in saying he will make millions.
