David Speers to host ASTRA Awards

Determined to show it will  be a serious affair, this year’s ASTRA Awards are to be hosted by SKY News political editor David Speers.

The theatre-style event will be held at Sydney’s State Theatre on Thursday, June 24th.

It follows criticism of last year’s sit-down food and drink presentation at Sydney’s Royal Hall of Industries in which some speeches were pretty colourful.

“They say politics is showbiz for ugly people, and I’m more than happy to swap it for one night with the beautiful people at the ASTRA Awards,” Speers says.

“The Awards are always a great celebration of our industry’s achievements and a whole lot of fun.”

Presenters will include Erin McNaught, Ruby Rose, Kris Smith, Lee Furlong, Tara Moss, Brendan Julian, Kyle Linehan, with more to be announced.

Voting for the two Favourite awards by the public closes on Friday. You can vote online at www.astraawards.com or by SMS.

The Awards will air in a highlights special at 6:30pm Saturday 26th on Arena.
