SKY strikes CNN deal

SKY News has struck a new four year deal with CNN with access to content and correspondents.

SKY News has struck a new four year deal with CNN, The Australian reports.

From January 1st it will have access to CNN programming.

The CNN International channel is already available through Foxtel, but SKY chief executive Angelo Frangopoulos says the network and its correspondents, including Australians like Michael Holmes and Anna Coren, “will form a central part of SKY international news coverage initiatives launching next year”.

Sky News reporters will also be accessed by CNN International for news coverage and programming from Australia.

“The importance of CNN to us is their breadth and depth. We’ve established great strengths in politics and national affairs, and the resources of CBS, Fox and BSkyB, but this takes us to another level,” he said.

It is believed to be the largest news content deal SKY has struck in its 15-year history.

  1. DansDans, you’re my new hero! 🙂

PS: I wonder whether ABC News cares much about this content deal? After all, they were mostly using BBC to fill the gaps lately. But then I remember September 11 when ABC went with a CNN feed all night & SBS went with BBC…

  2. Hopefully that will mean that CNN will become widescreen in Australia as Sky News Australia have all widescreen channels and would only make their service seem dodgy if some of their content is 4:3

  3. What would you want to watch celebrity and Showbiz trash on a news channel? Isnt there enough of that crap everywhere else? Its people like you, wanting to watch rubbish programming like that, which contributes to the dumbing down of our society and our news services…

You can keep SKY news then if you want to watch crap like that – Thank god ABCNews24 doesnt dedicate whole programming to “Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes having a 3rd child while going through an alien divorce”
