  1. Thank you David for putting this up on your site, I was facinated by it. I’m not a Melbournian but I’ve seen so many shows that were produced at GTV9 over the years I feel like I’ve grown up with the Bendigo Street studios.

This what it must have felt like when they decided to close BBC Television Centre for all the kids now adults that grew up with Doctor Who and the like in the UK. It’s a sad day.

  2. sevie g the chinese superman was played by Bruce Mansfield – who was there last night. I thought the package of politically incorrect stuff was some of the best of the night…

  3. If memory serves me correctly, I’m 99% sure that Bruce Mansfield ( who was in the news department ) played the role of Chinese superman on cartoon corner.

The special on last night was good. I especially liked the fact that Pete Smith ( mr copper art ) was featured ( abliet briefly ). The segment on the programing flops was fun and thought it was good that they played the clip of Mick Malloy pissing on the couch that was the catalyst for his original program being axed.

  4. Just finished watching the GTV9 special. It was like catching up with family seeing Bert, Patti, Ernie, Denise etc all again. One thing I would have liked to have seen was part of Cartoon Corner with Daryl Sommers in early 70s, they would occasionally have “The Chinese Superman” on. Because I was so young, I don’t know if it was Daryl that played him or someone else. At first I thought it may be too politically incorrect to show, but then they had a segment on that. They may not still have the footage. Anyway if some one could let me know if in fact Chinese Superman was Daryl or not that would be great. Cheers.

  5. Although it went 30 minutes over, the GTV9 farewell special seemed like it was too rushed, with not enough time to talk to people. They should’ve done it as two 2 hour shows, with the 2nd one shown on the following Saturday week.
