Foxtel to sell Arena?

There could well be changes ahead for the Arena channel with talk that Foxtel is looking to sell off the brand.

There could well be changes ahead for the Arena channel with talk that Foxtel is looking to sell off the brand.

The channel is currently one of several owned and operated by Foxtel.

A spokesperson told TV Tonight, “There are discussions happening between FOXTEL, Austar and a third party regarding the management of Arena, but there are no more details at this stage.”

Maybe taking a note from case of its slogan, “What What Happens”….

Meanwhile, as tipped by TV Tonight last May, Kristy Hinze has confirmed she will not be returning to Project Runway Australia.

“I’ve decided I can’t,” she said. “I can’t spend that long in Australia away from my husband and studying is my passion,” she told News Limited.

“I’ve had a fabulous time doing it and I’m sure the next person will too, but the time has come [for me] to move on.”

  1. @ David Knox – I just realised, isnt Arena owned by XYZ Networks not wholey by Foxtel? I know Foxtel took over the control of the channel a couple of years ago, but its still listed as one of XYZ’s channels on their page.

  2. Arena should become a reality channel already, as it needs to focus more on its reality programming rather than all the others. They should get The Apprentice and America’s Next Top Model on Arena and One Tree Hill should stay on W @ 5:15pm weekdays!

  3. to save money they won’t travel far for filming and it will be The Real Housewives of Moonee Ponds . One of them even works at Foxtel. hehehe
One Tree Hill all of a sudden was on W and now its on Arena again.

  4. Well it looks like NBC Universal is the most likely buyer, but what does that mean for the programming? Half the programming on Arena is not shown on Bravo U.S. and up till now it has been shared with other Foxtel channels. If NBCU managed to keep all the same programming and then get more from its other global channels it could be a kick ass channel.
I just wish they would rebrand Sci Fi as SyFy seems though we are one of the only countries in the world to still have it branded Sci Fi. I know NBCU only own like 33% of it but still it makes the country look “backwards” and NBCU cheap.
And we seriously need TV1, Arena, 13th Street, Univeral, and Sci Fi in HD. They need to be the next entertainment channels to go HD cause they have the most content that would benefit from a HD simulcast.

  5. Think you guys are right

NBCU will buy to add to their Aussie suite of networks: universal channel, 13th Street, Halmark and now likely Areana rebranded as Bravo

  6. I hope they bring back Project Runway Australia, but with completely new presenters. My ideal show would be, Megan Gale as Host, Alex Perry and Kirstie Clements as judges and Jayson Brunston as mentor….a pipedream only unfortunately…

  7. oh no , what does Tina Arena have to say about losing her channel ?hehehe
I have found Arena to be very useful for all sorts of shows over the years.
Tabatha’s Salon Takeover , Tori and Dean , Divorce Court , The Price is Right u.s.version , Flipping Out , Millionaire Matchmaker , Entourage , Maury Povich , Breaking Up with Shannen Doherty , Rachel Zoe , they even reran Melrose Place and Dynasty once. Hope the new version keeps everything.

  8. Have you heard anything about Austar and Speed channel? there are rumours floating around it’s started January, but they have more or less denied it, anyway you can find out?
