Axed: All My Children, One Life to Live

US network ABC has cancelled not one but two long-running daytime soaps with All My Children and One Life to Live.

US network ABC has cancelled not one but two long-running daytime soaps with All My Children and One Life to Live.

All My Children began in 1970 while One Life to Life started in 1968.

The climate hasn’t been good for daytime soaps following Guiding Light, As the World Turns and NBC’s Passions all axed in recent years.

General Hospital now stands as the last remaining daytime drama on ABC while Days of Our Lives was given a two-year renewal by NBC to September 2013 with an option for a renewal through to 2014. CBS, with The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, will become the last network with more than one soap on its schedule.

ABC is replacing both soaps with talk shows, The Chew, a one-hour live show centered on food (produced by ex-pat Gordon Elliot no less) and The Revolution discussing relationships, family, food, style, home design, finance and more.

  1. The American soap cable channel Soapnet is also being axed in January so that doesn’t look good for any other soap channel happening !!
Did you know the first 12 episodes of Sunset Beach have been released on dvd only in Germany ??
7TWO are clearly only interested in British soaps now , the morons.

  2. I’m shocked to read this. That leaves only the Big four daytime shows left, and for the first time in history Aus tv will have all the current daytime line up, unless GH disspaears, which is likely. Heres hoping Days and Y&R can survive a long time to come.

  3. Hi Billy
it was so true about Ben and Maria
the actress who played her is in make it or break it
she looks so different. Check her on that she
    plays the mother to Emily

  4. it was 1998 . I lived in a house with 4 housemates and we were all hooked on it !
and we were going crazy the way Ben never bumped into Maria and kept missing meeting her.

  5. @ Andrew and Billy:
Thanks for the Sunset Beach info.
This was an awesome show. We should get a re-run, TEN/ELEVEN defiantly wouldn’t touch it now because it was an NBC soap and Seven has the affiliation.
The character ‘Cole’ (Eddie Cibrian) was Hot!! There was only 750 episodes 🙁

    7TWO…hope your reading!

  6. Wow, I did not think they would cancel both, I thought one might go but not two. I watched both when they were on FOX8 and have watched them on and off via You Tube for the last few years. It’s a sad day for soap fans, the others won’t be far behind now.

  7. What a shock. I was hoping that w was going to show these shows .pretty soon there will be nothing to watch .Billy what year did sunset beach screen on fox8
now we only have four soaps left.
