ABC (US) says “not so fast” on Brothers & Sisters axe

Rachel Griffiths' talk of unemployment ignited a Twitterstorm, but ABC says no decision has been made on Brothers and Sisters yet.

US broadcaster ABC won’t confirm talk of any axing of Brothers and Sisters just yet, after Rachel Griffiths’ comments about her future employ when presenting at the Logie Awards.

Michael Ausiello at TV Line, which linked to yesterday’s story at TV Tonight, says Griffiths’ quotes ignited an instant Twitterstorm and led some Brothers and Sisters fans to conclude that the plug had been pulled on the series. It was also re-reported at TV Series Finale.

Not so, insists an ABC spokesperson, who assures TVLine that, “No decision has been made.”

Its fate is likely to be known in mid May when ABC unveils its new Fall line-up to advertisers.

  1. @Nik C There are little silly subplots, but enough to effectively hold discerning viewers I fear not.
Shows such as these need a major developing storyline that also develops and humanises the central characters.
I totally agree there are suplots but now the characters have been developed the writers have seemingly lost there way, when new fathers to existing children start entering the equation it normally ensues desperation and DOOL type storylines.

  2. First she said she is going to be unemployed. Then she said she might be unemployed, so I don’t think she is talking about being written out of the show. Also, Sally Field has reportedly been cast in a movie that is filming at the start of the next TV season.

I do agree the show has run its course, and I would like to see the cast in other things, especially Rachel Griffiths, but there are rumours that the season ends on a cliffhanger. Which will be frustrating if it is a series finale.

  3. “No decision has been made.” does not mean that the show will return it means that they are still wondering whether the show still has legs. I think the show has had it. I watched the first 1.5 seasons and then stopped.

  4. a TV exec saying a decesion has not been made, means one of two things

    1) TV execs dont know how to make decesions, and are waiting to be told what to do, or use a lottery system to decide what to do

    2) a decesion has been made, they just dont want to keep viewers informed and up to date

  5. I have enjoyed the fresh approach this year with a few different characters! The storylone is evolving, there are other subplots!

In my opinion it is still great and I would miss it if it ended 🙁

  6. Might be just me but I have always found her a little pretentious, seems to try a little to hard when being modest, that said the show seemingly revolved and relied upon two distinct story lines.
One being the Rob Lowe political ascension and of course the original mistress passage after that it seems to lack any subplot.

  7. Maybe she has quit and the producers are considering whether to keep going with a smaller cast. I think they should end it now because this year has been a bit ordinary.

  8. I thought she’s been written out of the show by the comments. Not the show had been axed altogether. Maybe they will do a 2012 version of the Flying Nun instead?
