Airdate: The Amazing Race Australia

By David Knox on May 9, 2011 / Filed Under Programming 29

Seven’s highly-anticipated local series of The Amazing Race will air premiere next week at 8:30pm Monday night.

In the premiere episode, meet the 11 teams who are about to depart on the adventure of a lifetime. Starting at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, they will cover more than 50,000km, 4 continents, 12 countries and 23 cities, and along the way, they’ll confront fears, experience new cultures and make lifelong friends. Who will have the right combination of strategy, strength, skill and teamwork to win the $250,000 prize?

This one is faithfully produced guys (see Review). If you enjoy the US version -and who doesn’t?- you’ll get right into this one.

This is a 90 minute premiere, pushing Brothers and Sisters back to 10pm.

Bring it on….

does anybody know how to apply for the next series?? :D

$250000 prize seems pretty good considering 50% of the US TAR winnings goes in US taxes making it seem a good deal.

It would work even better if Family Guy was still on 7 and followed right after TAR at 10pm.

Can’t wait. Its in the perfect timeslot. Nice going Seven.

    @MuchoTB

I am thinking Sunday 8:30pm for Downton Abbey

in the past they put this up against Nine’s footy show but I am pleased they have done the right thing and put TAR on against non bogan opposition this time around.

I’m gonna watch Offspring instead :)

    Too bad for Offspring.

Cannot wait another week for it. Should be several levels of awesomeness!

Thank You Seven for not putting the Premiere of The Amazing Race Australia up against Masterchef on Ten.

  11. Todd May 9, 2011 at 7:32 pm -

I was hoping that 7 would simulcast this on 7mate, in HD… looks like that ain’t gonna happen… :(

good that Erin Mcnaughts boyfriend got in due to her connections

Glad that it didn’t go Wednesdays. That night has enough viewing to worry about with MasterChef, AGT, Spicks and Specks, Angry Boys and Hungry Beast whereas Monday is only going to have MasterChef, Amazing Race and Offspring.

At first I didn’t know why it was on at 8 30 , but then I thought that mastachef was on 7 30, I can see why

Are you calling diverse people ugly Jerome?

  16. Jerome May 9, 2011 at 5:15 pm -

@Andrew_81. And what’s wrong with that? beautiful people are still human. There is a difference between a diverse cast and an ugly cast.

    $250,000 ?
cheapskates couldn’t even offer $1 million like the US
in fact, our dollar is better than parity so the prize should have been $1 million US….

Heaps good! Can’t wait!! Liking the 8:30 timeslot – can watch it straight after masterchef :-D – it’s much nicer when my favourite shows don’t clash!!

  19. Benjamin May 9, 2011 at 4:35 pm -

Now this is a ratings competition!!

Ch 7′s “TAR Australia” vs. Ch 9′s “CSI s12″ vs Ch 10′s “Offspring s2″ vs. Ch 11′s “Supernatural s6″.

I hope that Ch 7 is planning to encore screenings days later, like 7 encores eps of the American version (7TWO on Wednesday & replayed on Ch 7 Sunday morning).

I wonder where Downton Abbey will go? Maybe they’ll bump Criminal Minds to 9:30 Wednesdays, they’ve done it before and it still pulled 1 mill every wk

  21. Bella May 9, 2011 at 4:26 pm -

So looking forward to this. I hope they repeat it over the weekend as well on a regular basis.

  22. Warrigul May 9, 2011 at 4:25 pm -

A shame it clashes with Offspring.

  23. Mac May 9, 2011 at 4:18 pm -

    Yes!!!!

  24. JB May 9, 2011 at 4:05 pm -

    woop woop. Can’t wait

  25. Andrew_81 May 9, 2011 at 4:04 pm -

Theres an article in this weeks TV Week with all the contestants. As usual there is about 4 model teams and not one fully black or Asian person lol

  26. jalo May 9, 2011 at 4:03 pm -

Such an outdated and bad concept, hope it bombs.

  27. FlossAus May 9, 2011 at 3:57 pm -

That’s going to hurt Offspring’s initial airing, I’d imagine. TAR is far more Twitter/Watercooler friendly, Offspring is easily PVR material.

  28. Paull May 9, 2011 at 3:53 pm -

    Can’t wait.

  29. Bogues May 9, 2011 at 3:52 pm -

I’m really surprised that Seven didn’t put it in a 7:30pm slot (Thursdays maybe?) given that it is a local version (and I assume has a PG classification like the US series). Or is that the Masterchef effect?
