GEM is about to replay one of 2010’s most underrated series, The Big C starring Laura Linney.

The Showtime series follows Linney’s change of life after being diagnosed with cancer. But rather than being a maudlin series, it manages to prove an uplifting, sometimes poignant, series.

Linney absolutely shone in the role, landing a Golden Globe award in the process -as did the series. If you enjoy shows like United States of Tara, Nurse Jackie and Weeds then put this one into your diary immediately. It’s a late timeslot, so maybe get your PVR ready.

Meanwhile a new season begins in the US in late June and TV Tonight hears whispers that GEM is tipped to segue from Season One into Season Two.

The Big C begins from the Pilot episode at 11:30pm Monday May 16.

  1. I’ve watched a few episodes and it seems like a good show, but it’s on at 11:30… I hope it doesn’t push Conan into a later timeslot.

  4. This show is mere magic! I was totally engrossed within the 1st 5 minutes of episode one! Looking forward to season 2 and I have read that the show is being released on dvd in the next month or so!!!

  7. Completely agree David. This was a magic series but Nine mistreated it like it does with all of it’s quality drama. I wouldn’t have minded seeing it again but not at 11:30pm. Won’t be watching S2 on GEM either unless it’s on at a decent time.

  9. I hope they don’t shove series 2 at the 11:30pm Monday timeslot. This show deserves a 9:30pm slot especially on GEM.

    Sadly, GEM moved this and Weeds to a late night slot part way during the series last year. So I wouldn’t be surprised if it does show season 2 on late 🙁
