Good news with Bert ‘Moonface’Â Newton, 72, discharged from Epworth Hospital yesterday after being treated for pneumonia.
The TV legend is due to spend a week recuperating with family, but is itching to get back to work on Wicked, currently being staged in Perth.
”I’m much better today than I was two weeks ago,” he said.
”The time spent here has been so worthwhile and I’m looking forward to getting back to work – I’m not a very happy person when I’m not working.’
“It came as a bit of a shock, especially when you enjoy good health, which I have done.
“But so long as I do my best, the doctors tell me do exactly what they say, and I’ll be back on stage very very soon.”
However the “wake-up call” hadn’t prompted any talk of calling it quits by the man who is addicted to performing.
“It’s the old story. What I do, I don’t see as a job, I see it as something I love doing and it’s a very important part of my life.
“If I didn’t have my family and work, I couldn’t imagine life,” he said.

Keep on chugging Bert.
Thrilled he is doing ok – our last living legend from that era of variety stars. Bert is as the Cole Porter song goes – “he’s the top….he’s the colosseum”. There’s plenty of life left in him yet.
