New presenters join Play School

Ahead of its 45th birthday, Play School announced new titles, logo and new presenters in Rachael Coopes and Jonny Pasvolsky.

Former McLeod’s Daughters actress Rachael Coopes and Jonny Pasvolsky (Offspring, Underbelly, Cops LAC) will join the cast of Play School as the program celebrates 45 years.

On July 4 the show will feature new opening titles and  a refreshed new logo. Using a combination of stop-frame and digital animation, they will be accompanied by a new arrangement of the classic Play School theme song, sung by Jay Laga’aia and Justine Clarke.

There will be 20 new episodes of Play School air over four weeks on ABC2 at 9.30am. Two of the new episodes will feature Rachael Coopes and one with Jonny Pasvolsky.

“This is my dream job. I’m very grateful for the chance to be a part of Play School and hope I can inspire young kids to dream and use their imagination – just like the show did for me,” said Coopes.

Pasvolsky added: “It’s a great privilege to be part of Play School and after working on serious drama productions over the years, I’m glad to be doing something that my daughters love to watch.”

The kids show, which is one of only 3 Australian shows in the Logies Hall of Fame, also featured in a reunion tribute in Friday’s episode of A Current Affair.

Play School debuted on July 18, 1966 and airs weekdays at 9.30am and 4.30pm on ABC 4 Kids (ABC2) and 3.05pm on ABC1.
