Kumar misses MasterChef’s top ten

MasterChef's eldest contestant fails a blindfolded pressure test and misses out on a place in the top ten.

Kumar Pereira was eliminated from MasterChef Australia last night, denying him a place in the show’s top ten contestants.

Pereira was cut in a blindfolded pressure test challenge.

Asked to taste test a terrine and given their selected ingredients to cook with, he was only able to name four: pork neck, stock, thyme and apple.

“My mind went completely blank…I definitely didn’t expect the blindfold aspect and it really threw me,” he said.

“I was in complete turmoil. But talking with the benefit of hindsight, what I plated up was really not up to scratch.”

At 62 years of age, the design teacher from Sydney was the eldest contestant to ever make a Top 24.

In the all-male challenge, Billy Law, Peter Vickery and Michael Weldon survived, while Hayden Quinn relinquished his Immunity Pin to avoid elimination.

Joining them in the top ten are: Kate Bracks, Mat Beyer, Dani Venn, Ellie Paxton-Hall, Alana Lowes and Sun Etheridge.

  1. Kumar was such a lovely person to his fellow contestants. He showed respect and calmness always. I hope that he will go back into Master Chef when the other person gets fired from the show. It’s only fair that Kumar returns as he just missed out on the top ten. Kumar has such a strong fan base and people really like his gentle nature. Please come back Kumar!

  2. Kumar has such a huge fanbase…
    Sad to see him go…

would love to be a part of one of his design classes… I know he’d be an awesome teacher.

  3. I don’t watch many eps, but Kumar was my favourite personality, such a lovely guy, and a great ambassador for Sri-Lanka. I remember them saying that no eliminated contestant would return this season, but if they have to bring one back when the alledged cheat leaves, I hope it’s Kumar.

  4. Yeah, Kumar was good to watch but I think what probably pulled Michael through over him was the taste test itself… Kumar getting just 4 ingedients correct was fail hard!
It was a 2 stage challenge afterall and Michael had 12 ingredients, if I recall right?
They both plated up a poor result that were dishes of about even steven on the crap-o-meter.

  5. Kumar was my favourite and i don’t think he deserved to go. I know he only got 4 ingredients correct but he made better use of what he had then Michael.

  6. Was never going to win. There’s no obvious favorite this year. When sweaty dude goes and a former evictee is reinstated things might change..

  7. Once again producers fixed the result, how the hell did Michael stay in with a pathetic dish like that???, Kumar was never going to get through, he is 62

  8. Good to see kumar get so far, loving the diverse casting of m/chef, a 60+ sri lankan, middle aged gay man, an Asian gay man…all very good to see…take note channel 9!
