The Block finale

When will The Block be having its massive auction night? Minor spoilers.

Minor spoilers: Pencil in Sunday August 21 for The Block‘s big auction night.

It’s not yet confirmed but that’s the likely date given that the 4 properties go under the hammer on Saturday August 20th.

The Richmond houses are open for inspection at various weekend times beginning from 2:30pm today until Sunday July August 7th.

It will be a mad dash in the edit suites to turn the show around for August 21, but Watercress Productions pulled it off last year and with interest high in the show it should prove a ratings blockbuster.

Then we will watch with interest to see what Nine schedules into 7pm once again.

Never one to be outdone, TEN’s The Renovators has promised a live to air auction finale when it finally reaches its crescendo. Their challenge will be to turn a fairly dull real estate procedure into gripping television.

Let the bidding begin!

  1. Just goes to show you ,they made more $$$$ from advertising and veiwers than they did going to Auction in a Dud market. Auction is for losers when there is no Buyer Demand and Channel nine have led everyone on a Dud journey…What a joke!. I feel sad for the new foudn celebs butreally where are all the Books about making millions from the property market? guess what? they are gone! the bubble has burst and Auctions are a joke!

  2. regardless of what the properties sell for the couples that done all that hard work should be rewarded with something..not sure if they get to keep the corollas, they should and i would say they would be paid a wage for the 8 weeks, if not its not a fair deal ..weather channel 9 has a loss of money these guys deserve something , was alot of hard work went into those places, they all turned out great,,, rod and tania put alot of hard work into it., so did the othes, but i would bid on rod and tanias house if i had that sort of cash.. great work guys..x

  3. Another big artlicle in todays Sunday Herald Sun, with one buyer advocate indicating that to make a profit each of these properties needs to sell for about $1.40M. They are due to be auctioned for prices ranging from 800,00 to 990,000. Watercress productions apparently paid way over the odds after they were previously passed in….Now I thought part of the concept of the show was that the reno couples get to keep the profits….do they also have to pay up for the losses? What do they win? What was the point of this whole loss-making exercise? (yeah I know…ratings and I’ll watch the auctions to see how much they lose)

  4. 7pm will get decent numbers again but seriously though Nine needs a long term plan that doesn’t involve out of date American Sitcoms or Reality TV to attack Project and Home and Away or for that matter the continued use of Eddie Everywhere hosting the things.Any Ideas please send them to your local nine network office

  5. Who in their right mind would buy these houses? I mean i know we have building inspectors and all but from what i have seen some of the work looked a little rushed. I just wouldn’t want to even live in one of these houses. Also i can’t believe A Crap Affair revealed some of the results before the show has even gone to air. How bloody stupid.

    @MillerT1

I doubt Underbelly will go on Sunday night. Seven have advertised Wild Boys for Sundays and i doubt that Nine will risk putting it there. Although they have done it everywhere else in their schedules so wouldn’t surprise me. I personally think Underbelly will be Mondays 8:30pm.

  6. I guess having all the auctions on one day, stops Nine from stretching out the show for another week.

It sounds like Renovators auctions will go for an entire week with one live auction every night of the week. That would be interesting.

I’m predicting now that if Underbelly is going to go Sundays it will premiere on that night at 8:30. Or maybe the week before on the Monday, they could have a 90 minute special that leads into Underbelly.

  7. Just to update previous comment, there was an article in the 12th June edition of the Sunday Herald Sun stating the buying price. Its still on the net if you want to search. Not sure if links are allowed.

  8. @ Rutzie, according to an old HS report, ch9 paid around 900K for each of the properties as the market was much higher at that time. I am sure the producers will fudge the whole thing to make it look like the contestants have made loads of dough. The reality is that they haven’t.

Can you imagine the egos on show with the real estate agents who have got the rights to sell these places….jeez these guys are so up themselves at the best of times….this will be 100 times worse.

  9. Just no more 2.5 men or Big Bang Theory once the Block Ends.I am hoping that Nine does introduce a News/Chat Show with Karl and Leila to take over for the rest of the year pending a 2012 reintroduction of Temptation or the Price is Right

  10. According to Hocking Stuart’s Red magazine (HS is one of the selling agents), the auction will be closed to the public and only genuine buyers and a few special guests will be invited. However you can enter a competition at the HS website to win VIP tickets to attend the auction.

  11. So Nine have another 3 weeks to beat Seven for their first weekly win of the year, because it will be all down the shitter for the rest of the year.

  12. all houses are listed for sale/auction on the contestants facebook pages you can see completed houses and auction dates at realestate.com 37 cameron st richmond

  13. Been watching The Block all the way through – was disappointed to see the Current Affair story on Friday night where they actually showed some of the rooms that we haven’t seen finished yet without giving a spoiler alert – but looking forward to seeing who wins

  14. Just thought I’d ask anyone with a bit of knowledge about house prices regarding a story on ACA last night saying that each house could possibly get around the $800,000-$900,000 mark. Is that a reasonable estimate?
