SBS screens the inside story of Bradley Manning the army intelligence analyst who leaked info to Julian Assange.

Next month SBS screens WikiSecrets, the inside story of Bradley Manning the army intelligence analyst who leaked info to Julian Assange.

It was the biggest intelligence breach in the history of the United States – the leaking of more than half a million classified documents on the WikiLeaks website throughout 2010. At the centre of this controversy was Bradley Manning, the army intelligence analyst who has been charged with handing them over.

WikiSecrets is the inside story of Bradley Manning, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and the leak that captured the attention of the world.

Tracking Manning from his deployment to Iraq through to his arrest and imprisonment, several questions emerge – among them, the ease with which Manning was able to browse and download so much classified information.

Featuring exclusive access to those closest to Manning, including his father and even his army bunk mate, the program examines the events surrounding the publication of the leaked documents, and asks how and why the intelligence breach occurred.

WikiSecrets also features interviews with key players like WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange; Eric Schmitt, the New York Times reporter first assigned by the paper to vet the leaked material; and Adrian Lamo, a well-known figure in the cyber underground who eventually turned Manning over to the authorities and is now living in an undisclosed location over fears for his safety.

  1. This should be interesting. I wonder how much this was edited to fit in with the content regualations. I must say i commend SBS for planning to air this, because i know that none of the other FTA networks wont go near this at all. At the same time SBS is showing some serious balls, considering the Govt has cut funding to the broadcaster.

  2. Any idea of whether the ‘Wikileaks has not gone far enough’ session at the Festival of Dangerous Ideas at the Sydney Opera House on 30 September (where Assange will appear via satellite) will be screened on FTA? The session sold out a while ago…
