This weekend Shirley MacLaine tells Sunday Night‘s Alex Cullen she’s “happier now than I’ve ever been in my life.”

Quad Boys
It was planned as the adventure of a lifetime… three best friends from Sydney riding quad bikes more than 60,000 kilometres across three continents, 38 countries, to set a world record and raise $100,000 for charity. They navigated their way across deserts, through Civil Wars, and evaded Africa’s most dangerous wildlife. Then, just a few hundred kilometres short of reaching their goal something happens that changes the lives of these young university graduates forever. And all the drama is captured on camera. Ross Coulthart reports on a remarkable journey of love, loyalty and hope.

Shirley MacLaine on life, love and Aussie politicians.
Shirley MacLaine is someone who can honestly say she’s lived a full life .. perhaps even several. There’s the stellar movie career, the many, many affairs, her days with the Rat Pack, dabbling in politics and of course her belief in reincarnation and UFO’s. And as the screen icon Shirley MacLaine tells Alex Cullen in a one-on-one interview this week, she’s “happier now than I’ve ever been in my life.” The Academy Award winner reflects on fame, frienships with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, and on her romantic liasons – including with Australia’s one-time Prime Ministerial aspirant and ‘Colt from Kooyong’, Andrew Peacock.

The elephant orphanage
It’s difficult to imagine an elephant being unable to fend for itself. But if you’re a baby orphan elephant, like anyone else, it’s not much fun without a Mum or Dad…. Especially if your backyard is the jungles of East Africa. But for thirty years the orphan elephants of Kenya have had a saviour … a remarkable and crusading woman whose life mission has been saving as many of these vulnerable animals as possible. So far she’s rescued 150 and counting, and she’s been so inspirational and successful she received a knighthood for her work. Tim Noonan travels to her backyard to meet this remarkable lady and the keepers who become surrogate parents to these beautiful babies.

  1. In 1993 while serving in the Australian Army in Siem Reap, Cambodia, I had the privilege to escort Shirley around Ankor Wat. Watching the interview reminded me of what a beautiful person she is.
