60 Minutes: Sept 25

Heads up for Dynasty fans. Joan Collins puts Liam Bartlett "in the firing line" this Sunday night.

Possibly swayed by the reaction of Fergie’s huff with Michael Usher, the blurb for this Sunday night’s 60 Minutes says Liam Bartlett is in “in the firing line” during his Joan Collins interview.

I realise 60 Minutes faces have always been part of the show’s brand, but are we possibly getting away from the guest being the story this year? I guess we’ll find out later.

One for Dynasty fans either way.

The Awakening
You’re about to witness conclusive proof that true love and devotion can produce miracles. Sam Goddard was a vibrant young man cut down in his prime by brain injury. Unable to walk and talk, he would have stayed that way if not for the dedication of his fiance, Sally Neilsen and the chance discovery of a remarkable medical breakthrough. After searching online, Sally decided on a desperate experiment, to give Sam a common sleeping pill called Stilnox. What happened next was beyond her wildest expectations. While scientists attempt to fathom what Stilnox unlocks in the human brain, around the world, this accidental wonder drug is offering new hope to families who, until now, have had none.

Haunted
It would be an understatement to describe Robert Geeves as a man unlucky in love. Earlier this year, we told you how two of the women in his life met tragic and suspicious ends – one shot dead, the other missing without trace. Geeves was investigated, but cleared of blame both times. On Sunday night, you’ll meet a third woman, who claims her life was shattered by Robert Geeves. For 25 years, Erica has tried to forget what happened, but after Liam Bartlett’s investigation on 60 Minutes last April, she’s decided to speak out about the man who still haunts her dreams.

Drama Queen
St Tropez in the South of France and an audience with the legendary Joan Collins. What could possibly go wrong? She’s a star who emerged from the Golden age of Hollywood – a gentler era of style and grace. But, remember, Joan made her greatest mark playing one of the nastiest bitches in television history – the scheming Alexis Carrington of Dynasty. At 78 years of age, she can still muster her inner Alexis, and has even created a stage show dishing the scandalous dirt on her former co-stars. What Liam Bartlett didn’t count on, when he sat down for a cosy chat, was ending up in the firing line.

  1. Does the faux-journos at Sixty Minutes really believe goading an interviewee until they provoke a walk-out is “good television”. It’s such a tired and tedious approach, the interviewer always looks like a prat and, more often than not, our sympathies are with the poor interviewee. I wouldn’t normally care one way or the other for Joan Collins, but I was with her all the way watching this crap. It’s just a shame she came back and gave him enough footage to complete his story. Though, given she was promoting her book, I guess we know why.

  2. Maybe you’re right Allan, but wht do these reporters believe a glimpse of their personalities is of greater interest than the interview subject. That interviewer is bland in a bottle

  3. I can remember Joan Collins in Dallas, much preferred Charlene Tilton, thought she was very beautiful. and a good actress. Is it not strange that these women do so much to their face but their age is given away by their neck.. I would not have bothered after she had walked out, would have just let her go.

  4. Liam Barrett, talk about inserting yourself into the story. The reporter was overly smug and surely set out to get a reaction from the interviewee. As for stammering over asking about her marriages, this was simply a case of pretending to be coy.
At the end, one sided with Joan Collins who had to put up with incredibly boorish behaviour

  5. Dynasty, much like Dallas, was such a classic and what a great actress she is. Still remember her from a lot of great 70’s movies, “Revenge”, “Tales From The Crypt”, “Fear In The Night”, “Tales That Witness Madness”, “I Don’t Wan’t To Be Born” and “Empire Of The Ants” among them. No wonder she has a cult following.
