Insight: Oct 4

Insight brings together an audience of disenchanted young voters to talk about what's wrong with our political parties.

Tomorrow night Insight tackles the disillusionment that young voters have with our political parties.

Australia’s main political parties are in trouble. Dissatisfaction ratings are up. Party memberships are down. Way down.

This week, Insight brings together an audience of disenchanted young voters with politicians – old and new – to thrash out what’s wrong and what might be done about it.

Guests include:
– Peter Reith
– Bob Carr
– Wyatt Roy
– Australian Country Director of Change.org, Nick Allardice
– Young voters from around Australia including Damon Mehrpour and Rashida Khan.

Insight is hosted by Jenny Brockie and airs on SBS ONE every Tuesday at 7.30pm.

  1. Rashida Khan,
Fantastic to see the producer has included at least one person from Rural Australia. The real Australian’s need to be consulted more as they are hard working, passionate about the land and can articulate the issues that hit the heart of the Nation better than anyone else.
Please give Rashida a chance to speak as I just found her speech on the net and those from the bush need a voice & those in the cities need to listen.

  2. BOth of the two major parties have gone bonkers, why? its because we allow it. Australians need to make sure that we are more direct with our politicians and reward them for long term planning and thinking which is good for the nation not bag them every time, in which they get scared and than they retreat into their burrows. Also people have to be realistic when voting for a party. I think its a delicate but achievable mix. In last years election i didnt vote for any of the major parties.

  3. Rashida, we live at opposite ends of the continent. You wrestle with crocs, cattle and ridiculously unfair, bureaucratic legislation relating to the hardy soles trying to make a living on the land, while like many of the comfy greens and self – appointed intellectual elite (no, I am neither!), I live in inner – urban relative luxury. But I understand the fundamental importance to Australia of our agricultural industries, both in terms of exports And feeding us, and I truly hope that you have the opportunity to tell it like it is, and ask some vital questions, tonight.
    Bro’ al

  4. Rashida, give us all a voice. You are able to do this, and not be compromised. Be true to yourself and let Australians know why we are all disillusioned. There is a strength in you, if you cannot see it, others can. Tell it how it is.

  5. We should listen, let them tell it how it is.
Being disillusioned does not discriminate – young or old.
Let them have it Rashida – you are amazing…truly amazing!

  6. younge voters are disillioned because they are being taught in schools most teachers are more to the left of politics and it doesn’t give an even vote when they are old enough to vote I’am sure Whyat would have learnt more from home than in primary school ,maybe thats why he is where he is today.

  7. ” …the disillusionment that young voters have …”

Oh please – what about the rest of us? Those of us who have been around long enough have serious reason to be disillusioned.
