More digital channels for regional South Australia

Viewers in the South East of Regional SA will soon get GO!, GEM, 7TWO, 7mate, ONE and ELEVEN.

Viewers in the South East of Regional South Australia will soon be able to receive commercial digital channels GO!, GEM, 7TWO, 7mate, ONE and ELEVEN.

The WIN Network will begin rolling out the next phase of digital transmission to the South East area, Mt Burr, Mt Benson, Bordertown, Naracoorte and Keith, from Thursday, November 10.

WIN Network Manager Legal, Regulatory & Network Affairs Shirley Brown said, “It is exciting for us to be delivering the digital multi channels to more areas of South Australia earlier than anticipated”.

“Viewers will now have access to more channels than ever before and will enjoy the variety of programming they are about to receive”.

To receive the new digital channels viewers will need a digital set box which can be plugged in to existing televisions, or a television with a built-in digital tuner. The correct antenna system is also very important for reliable digital reception.

During the test period, transmissions may vary in power and/or duration while the system is being tested and any possible interference to existing services is being assessed.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
The switch over will occur from midnight on Thursday 10th November and will result in viewers losing some of their current viewing options on the day.

Viewers tuned to Mt Burr, Mt. Benson, Naracoorte and The Gap are advised to rescan from 9.30am on Thursday 10 November.

Viewers tuned to Bordertown and Keith are advised to rescan from 2pm Thursday 10 November.

As part of Broadcasters licence requirements, we are in the process of notifying users of radio frequency spectrum in the area including TV and Radio Broadcasters, Health Departments, Hospitals, ACMA, FTV and Local Councils.

Please consider this your notification.

Test transmissions may cause interference to radio communications equipment or television reception. In the unlikely event those users of radio frequency spectrum or members of the public experience interference please check the WIN website for contact details.

  1. Congratulations. Does that mean they’ll get all the digital channels from that date barring something going wrong? Has anything gone wrong in the past other than the need for rescanning?

I know when they added Eleven last year (with the rolling ads ) I had to rescan the channel (Ten Network on digital channel 11 if I remember correctly ) on both the Digital TV (all channels ) and set top box (just the individual channel ) . Because on the TV it was channel 12 and on the HD set top box the sound was wrong as well as some of the channels i.e. 1, 11 & 12 . BTW I’m in a metro area so it’s obviously different for regional areas. But probably the same principle.

Speaking of Eleven I’ve noticed they do a generic ad for Smallville now. I’ll admit I like the one they’ve chosen. But I wonder if they’ll advertise that Teri Hatcher from Desperate Housewives as well as Lois & Clark: The Adventures of Superman will be on in two weeks i.e. episode 9 Abandoned I believe? Also when John Glover (Lionel Luthor ) and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor ) show up? It would also coincide with this expansion of digital coverage. Although I get they don’t count towards metro numbers.
