TEN signs controversial NZ presenter for Breakfast

Controversial New Zealand TV presenter Paul Henry will join Andrew Rochford on TEN’s 2012 morning programme, Breakfast.
Currently host of a drive programme on the Radio Live station, Henry confirmed on NZ’s 3News on Saturday he will be paid paid more than $NZ1 million ($A767,813) after Lachlan Murdoch called to offer him the job.
He will conclude his radio show in March.
Henry, has previously hosted the NZ show of the same name, Breakfast, from 2004 to 2010 but it ended in controversy after his pronunciation of New Delhi’s chief minister Sheila Dikshit, which resulted in the New Zealand government apologising to India.
He has previously referred to homosexuals as “unnatural” and Susan Boyle as “retarded” -both of which resulted in complaints to the Broadcasting Standards Authority- and questioned the ethnicity of NZ Governor-General, Sir Anand Satyanand, born in Auckland to Indo-Fijian parents.
After being suspended Henry was forced to resign and apologised.
“It is also difficult for TVNZ to get on with the business of being a first-class broadcaster as long as I remain. I have apologised twice, and have meant every word. I again apologise to all those who were genuinely hurt by what I said.”
While working for TEN, Henry will also continue to work for TV3, filming his new Sunday night show in Sydney.
“The great thing about TEN is that they are edgy and prepared to have a laugh at life and themselves,” he told the Sunday Telegraph.
A female co-host for Breakfast is yet to be announced.

Seriously any reason I might have considered watching this is now gone. I think ABC breakfast with Virgina and Mark will remain the only descent morning show.

This is great news for all right wing bigots involved in broadcasting….It looks like you can get a job at Channel 10 as long as Lachlan Murdoch is in charge.This is disturbing news as I’ve seen those clips of this guy making his outrageous statements..He is just rude and lacking in any humour.
He also has a face meant for radio.

Well, shock jocks rate well on radio, at least here in Sydney, so I assume that’s the market 10 is aiming for. At least he’ll be company for Andrew Bolt.

another reason to not watch. while the abc produce good quality with ratings Lachie is taking the $2 shop approach with predictable results. maybe he dig up hinch and the crazy perth radio sadler and make it a trio.
Well ten said Breakfast was going to be different. Paul is going to be a breath of fresh air in the morning space. Great appointment.
Considering the casting has gone from bad to worse with this show, I’m guessing the female host will be Mercedes Corby.

I was going to give Ten’s new breakfast show a try next year … until I read this news. Paul Henry is not worth a minute of my time. Thank goodness for ABC News Breakfast.

He is basically a Jeremy Clarkson-wannabe. Ten will definitely get some headlines from his barbed humour – but not sure about viewers.

This guy is hilarious. He should host Breakfast. TEN, you’ve given me a reason to watch (record) now. Just look up some TVNZ breakfast clips on YouTube and you will see how funny Paul is. This is great news!
Just what Ten needs , this should give the other chns a run for their money and ratings. If your looking for controversy Ten has found it. Henry will out sine Bolt I’m sure of that.
Oh well, now I only have to choose between Today and Sunrise.
