  1. When Did People Start Saying “Showrunner”?
    slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2011/10/14/showrunner_meaning_and_origin.html

“But in an era of producer credit proliferation, those on set needed a new, shorter term to separate the person making final creative decisions from other producers. “You needed to know who the person to blame is, and who has the ultimate authority,” says Alex Epstein, author of Crafty TV Writing. “Showrunner” became natural shorthand for the person who literally runs the show. Variety started using “showrunner” to describe producers in 1992.”

  2. The term showrunner has been around for quite a while ( I heard it around 2001 on a Simpsons commentary )
The term is used to separate the person who runs a show from day to day as opposed to people who have honorary producer credits which seem to given out frequently.

  3. Actually, it’s NCIS: LA that has an Aussie as its showrunner, Shane Brennan. However, he is executive producer for NCIS. Gary Glasberg, an American, is the showrunner for NCIS.
Also, nice to see that both NCIS shows are the top 2 scripted dramas in the states.

  4. Bob’s Burgers is last? Bob’s Burgers hasn’t had a first-run episode since May but it’s on the list because (to quote a commenter on the EW article) it ran: “one or two reruns which aired at 7 or 7:30 on weeks when FOX didn’t have a late NFL game. They weren’t promoted, either.”

  5. Seems like ol’ Tiger Blood’s exit from 2.5 Men hasn’t really hurt the show at all. For a show to be in it’s 9th season and still getting that sort of audience is pretty impressive. Chuck Lorre must be really laughing.

  6. That doesn’t take network into consideration. The CW have half the amount of viewers to the other main networks, which is why The Secret Circle is their number one show of the year. The list has a great amount of new and returning shows, but it only looks at numbers which sucks.
