Lleyton lifts Hopman Cup for ONE

ONE had a great night on Sunday with the first day of the Hopman Cup, with shares topping the multichannels.

TEN may be struggling to make a dent in the summer ratings, but ONE had a great night on Sunday with the first day of the Hopman Cup.

The match pulled 206,000 viewers, with its biggest audience of 54,000 in Melbourne. In its home city of Perth, where the broadcast was delayed it was 37,000.

The match saw Lleyton Hewitt defeated by Spain’s Fernando Verdasco, with an injured foot seen as a test for his Australian Open appearance. Hewitt will also commentate for Seven at the latter.

While it may not have been the highest multichannel audience for the night (that fell to GO’s Big Bang Theory with 317,000), the sustained numbers proved strong for ONE and it topped the multichannels with a big 6.5% share.

That was more than SBS ONE and TWO combined.

It also wasn’t so far behind the share for TEN’s own primary channel on 9.9%.

TEN Network picked up the Hopman Cup last year after ABC abandoned its broadcast deal.

  1. And the commentary in that match was horrible.

So much adoration for Hewitt from the Australian commentators meanwhile the Spaniard usually gets “lucky shot”.

  2. James Warburton has alot of work to do after Lachlan Murdoch wrecked TEN in 2011. I wish James well but the biggest lost for TEN was the AFL broadcast deal going to Ch-7 and that AFL sponsorship will follow from TEN to SEVEN.

The Graham Norton show on TEN saturday nights mite pull some ratings but will not beat the AFL. I guessing TEN will put back to the future movies again lol

  3. One changes it’s structure to move away from a sports channel, and it’s best rating show is sport lol. Enjoying One’s coverage. Wish we got both day and night sessions live though
