  1. I bought the Logies Moments special from the newsagency today. As a fan of Neighbours, could you imagine how furious I was when the image of Margot Robbie was incorrectly captioned as Samara Weaving (Home and Away). Absolutely appalled at TV Week. Absolutely appalled! I paid $8.95 for it and they just had to eff it up!

  2. As has already been mentioned, Hamish has a loyal fanbase from his radio days who would vote for him regardless of the quality of his TV show. I guess time will tell whether that’s enough to get him over the line.

  3. If you pick up a copy of TV Week this week, notice that where Ready Steady Cook is acknowledged for Most Popular Lifestyle Program, the image is a pic of Peter Everett and not Colin Lane! (Even though the nomination is for the recent series hosted by Lane)

  4. Do you think Hamish may have got voted because of his radio work. I know its a tv award but if you listen to Hamish and Andy on there radio show and you like him then I guess some people would vote for him.

So Karl’s win last year wasnt because of today doing a publicity thing to vote. people do like him.

Esther I can see why she got nominated. As a home and away viewer she was a great actress and her character had some major storylines last year and people liked the charlie/Brax relationship then she died so of course that draws votes.

I have no issue with them except Karl. God I hope Adam Hills wins. He would make a great speech plus he’s the nicest guy on tv.

  5. @ Menicci deffanity right where is TAR

Its a little unfare how Hamish gets nomination for Gold Logie but Andy doesnt. If anything they should both be given a joint nomination because they would be nothing without each other.

  6. Carrie is the worst female on tv. Sexist, naive and surprisingly uninformed about so much despite being a ‘journalist’. It must be end of days if she is considered the best at anything!

  7. Congrats to Chrissie, wish the rest of the Circle team got more noms.

Esther Anderson was woeful at best, so she’s up because her character got killed off? #joke

  8. How can Tiffiny Hall (Trainer, The Biggest Loser) be in the run to win an award? She is a PT on a reality show, show an actor. These nominations make no sense. And once again, no Jackie Woodburne nomintations.

  9. I will be watching the Logies this year live on TV. The popular awards are weak and almost useless but the I do believe in the worth of the peer voted awards, a true indication of the worth of TV here in Australia and how we stand when compared to the rest of the world when it comes to TV.

  10. the logies should be conducted by an association that has absolutely No connection with Any of the networks, the fact that nine owns TV Week, proves that its all total bull*

how do you feel about TV Tonight taking over? :P

  11. I can’t believe The Amazing Race is not there somewhere, it was, in my opinion the best show of 2011! And echoing the thoughts of many others, I will be happy for Any of the others to win the Gold except Karl.

  12. @JBar: It’s not the first digital channel nomination, though it may be considered the first “most popular” nomination to come from a digital channel. ABC3 has been nominated and has won for My Place and Dance Academy in the Most Outstanding categories in previous years.

  13. Shouldn’t the nomination for James Mason (Chris Pappas, Neighbours, Network Ten) actually be listed as Eleven? Is this the first ever nomination for a digital multi-channel show?

  14. Ratings doesn’t reflect voting popularity. And voting popularity doesn’t reflect ratings.

Not everyone has a ratings box at home. And not everyone who watches TV will vote in the Logies.

Despite not agreeing with Karl or Carrie getting in for Gold, they obviously have the votes. Their shows are on 5-6 days a week throughout an entire year. That’s constant exposure and even with low ratings, their viewers can add up to a lot of different people throughout the year. They obviously have the support.

  15. I hope Rob Carlton wins the Silver for his portrayal of Kerry Packer. I will never understand why Nine insisted on doing the World Series Cricket drama series and did not ensure Rob was cast as KP after he did such a great job in Paper Giants. It will be an awkward/funny moment if he does get it!

  16. The Today Show, They copy Sunrise, copy their set and buy a gold logie. The Logie awards are now a joke and i am tipping this year they will come third in the ratings after DWTS and MC. I like the most outstanding part but when it comes to most popular, i think the ratings are a more accurate way to go. If Karl wins again this year, it will kill this awards show. No ratings, no awards.

  17. The Logies is the awards show equivalent of ‘Weekend At Bernies'; a dead corpse (The Logies) is paraded around, year after year, by two panic-stricken cronies (Nine and TV Week) who manage to convince (some) people that it’s still a real, animate thing and everyone should watch it! If only the Logies were half as entertaining. (What’s that? Hell yes, of course I’ll be watching!)

  18. I agree with others, how is it right that a show win a Logie for “most popular” when others in the category out rate it by hundreds of thousands of viewers ?

Another thing, why finish the ceremony so damn late? Most people watching have work or school the next morning.. 11.30pm is too late and the whole night is way to padded. 2.5 hrs is more than enough and finish it by 10.30!

  19. How on earth is Sunrise nominated for light entertainment year after year? I know it does provide for light entertainment most of the time…

But it is still technically a news program.

And surely with the amount of breakfast tv shows on all channels now, they could introduce a ‘most popular morning television show’.

And of course then there’s those Gold Logie nominations. What a joke. Surely TV Week need to change it to a category nominated by peers, rather than a category driven by network promos and marketing.

Even if the peers nominated the personalities and then the public got to vote for the winner from that. shortlist…

  20. Not one nomination for TANGLE…in the outstanding categories. Shows what a joke the logies are. Season 2 of Tangle was probably the best piece of Australian drama in a long time.

  21. @bettestreep2008

Yep, Nine probably will. Or, they will strive to get Hamish to win to try to gain viewers for Hamish & Andy’s new show in London.

And, Do we know who is host yet?
Hope either Shaun Micallef or even Larry Emdur would be great.

  22. @ bettestreep2008, the Logies have been a complete and utter joke for the last 25 years or more.
How can a show watched by nobody and some talentless individual disliked by the vast majority be nominated, let alone win anything, as quite often happens?

  23. I want to cry at the thought of Karl winning again. Today is on everyday. They will plug him everyday. Their viewers will vote everyday… He’s going to win again!

Unless people remember how phenomenal Asher Keddie has been in the last year in both Offspring and Paper Giants.

  24. Why doesn’t Most Popular just equate to the ratings. Surely the show with the highest audience is the most popular? In what universe is Sunrise, with 420,000 viewers, judged more popular the AGT with 1.6 million. Who needs to count the votes? These things get judged every day, and for a lot of them popularity seems to be on a sliding scale.
Remember last year when The Circle, with 50,000 viewers a day, managed to be more “popular” than shows with ten times the audience numbers. It’s a stupid system!

  25. Why do people take these awards so seriously? They are hardly the pinnacle of excellence, they’re voted by teenage girls, bored housewives and each channel’s promotions/ PR department. As I’ve said I. The past they have as much relevance as the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards….

  26. Can I just mention that Karl is more than just the Today Show. He is well known across the nation from his news reporting on the natural disasters plus all the media about him and viral videos (Dalai Lama)

But I don’t get why Hamish is up for Gold? There’s definitely something dodgy there, I think there’s been a secret campaign somewhere. It’s like when Lisa McCune kept winning gold when her partners parents owned a newsagency. (when voting was done only by magazine)

Also Surprised to see Chrissie Swan nominated again but not The Circle, How much TV do you need to do to get a nom? Chrissie was off for months having her baby then came back and announced she was leaving in 2011

  27. bettestreep2008

I remember when Eddie McGuire complained bitterly about Chrissie Swann’s Gold Logie nomination last year because ‘The Circle’ rated so poorly.

Well I was gobsmacked when Stefanovic won the Gold considering his show rated just a few thousand more than ‘The Circle’ and about a million less than Packed to the rafters!

Let’s face it – this year the Nine fix is in – and if Karl or Hamish get the Gold – the Logies will once again be exposed as a complete joke.

The Gold should go to Adam Hills or Asher Keddie for their wonderful hosting/acting roles.

But I have a sneaky suspicion that Nine will ensure Karl wins again.

  28. All sounds pretty good – except Karl being nominated again.

Very happy for The Project, a fair few nominations there (although disappointed Hughesy missed out on the Gold).

Any news on the host David? Early on, I heard they were thinking on Shane Bourne again. But the Herald Sun recently said that Shaun Micallef and Adam Hills are primed to host. Any of these options would work well, but would just like to know…

  29. David, isn’t iFish on ONEHD? As I don’t recall ever seeing it on Ten. Strange to see a fishing program get a nomination.

I personally perfer David Koch and Sunrise over Karl and Today.

No Celebrity Apprentice or Dancing With the Stars for Best Reality.

  30. Its a crap list for Gold if you ask me. Asher is the only standout. Karl is the biggest tool on TV and Hamish Blake is the 2nd biggest tool. Carrie and Esther are not surprises considering Esther in particular was extremely popular on Home and Away before they killed her off but yeah the list lacks a lot.

Outside of Gold though the list of nominations are pretty good.

  31. Is Hamish Blake really worthy of a Gold Logie?
It isn’t fair that he gets nominated but Andy doesn’t.
Why is Carrie Bickmore suddenly so popular?
What about Shaun Micallef and Kerri-Anne Kennerley?

I am most disappointed that Video Hits hasn’t been recognized unless it’s up for Hall of Fame. I don’t mind the Loop but it’s no Video Hits or rage.

    No Neighbours is surprising.

With tonight being the announcement of the Logie Nominations and so much news that happened over the weekend, I can’t believe the Project isn’t on this evening.

  32. What an interesting list this year. Odd to see Shaun Micallef and Talkin Bout Your Gen missing out. Also lifestyle… no Top Model or Grand Designs.

So happy to see Carrie up for gold. She is one of the only people on tele I reckon I feel like I know. Of course I dont but she seems to share herself and her life far more than others do. I always loved watching her in the arly days of Rove Live and its great to see her doing so well.

  33. John Jackson

Wow.. Would that be a first that Neighbours isn’t nominated for Most Popular Drama Series? I know it is regularly the most highest rating program on the multi channels but many still stick to the main channels so Neighbours has left the easy visibility for quite a few.

Saying that I do notice James Mason got nominated for most popular male, but bummer that others like Eve Morey and Gemma Pranita didn’t.

  34. Sometimes I just don’t get the Logies.
Sunrise gets voted for most popular light entertainment program and Karl gets voted most popular presenter and gold logie. How?

How could Hamish be voted for gold logie but not Andy? They both did the same thing. The show wasn’t that great nor ovally popular.

Other than that it seems like a good bunch of nominations.
