Longtime NBC Today show Matt Lauer is set to announce that he has signed a long-term contract to remain as host, an NBC News spokeswoman has confirmed.
Lauer, who has been with the show since 1994, is widely seen as one of the best parts of the program. But TMZ reports it’s bad news for Ann Curry, because sources say Lauer does not want her as his co-host, and it appears her fate is now sealed.
The news comes at a time when former Today host Kate Couric appeared as a guest-host on rival ABC show Good Morning America.
Despite its lead for 16 years, Good Morning America came as close as 119,000 viewers last week – the closest edge in seven years.
This week Today enlisted the help of Sarah Palin as a guest host and Ryan Seacrest as a new contributor. Some were expecting Seacrest to become a possible Lauer replacement.

I don’t like Matt Lauer that much, but I hope Ann Curry manages to stay with Today.
This is fantastic news as there was talk he would leave this year. I’m hoping for another “where in the world is Matt Lauer”! And I like Ann but she isn’t co-host material and also can’t believe Matt would say that as I thought they got along well. Savannah would be a good replacement as she & Matt have great chemistry 😉 I also like GMA and thought this week with Katie as co-host has been the best ever & I hope Robin goes on holidays more often!
Thats good news that mat is sticking with today.
Im not an ovally big fan of Ann Curry’s, she’s a bit boring.
