Bio marks Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee

The Bio channel is celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee with a collection of royal programming.

From next week the Bio channel is celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee with a collection of royal programming throughout May and June.

Starting May 9, Wednesdays at 8.30pm, Deborah Hutton presents a portfolio of programs on the House of Windsor and portraits of the Queen’s life as a princess, a wife and as the monarch of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Nations since her accession to the throne on the death of her father on February 6, 1952.

The focal point of the Jubilee year is the weekend of June 2, which marks the 60th anniversary of the coronation ceremony and Bio’s tribute will include royal specials on the Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

The only other British sovereign to have commemorated a Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria, who ruled for more than 63 years until she was 81.

Having just celebrated her 86th birthday, Queen Elizabeth II has outlived her great-great-grandmother to be the oldest reigning British monarch. She still works as hard as ever, carrying out hundreds of public engagements every year and is hailed as the great survivor.
