Gritty US cop drama Southland has been renewed by cable network TNT for a fifth season.

TNT picked up the series in 2009 after it was axed by NBC and it has been a solid performer for them.

The fourth season has included appearances by Lucy Liu, Lou Diamond Phillips, and C. Thomas Howell, amongst others.

TNT president Michael Wright said a statement, “We are very proud of Southland and grateful to everyone involved in the series, including executive producers John Wells, Chris Chulack and Jonathan Lisco; creator Ann Biderman; and our partners at Warner Bros. Television.”

The series airs in Australia on Nine.

Whatever happened to Seth Cohen? Someone should give him a new show, the only things I’ve seen him in since the OC is cameos in Scream 4 and Mr and Mrs Smith
