New host for Can of Worms soon

By David Knox on June 2, 2012 / Filed Under News 12

TEN is close to announcing the new host for Can of Worms.

Yesterday Zapruder’s producer Anita Jacoby tweeted: “Much speculation about the new host of @canofwormstv Can’t say too much but they’re about to celebrate their diamond jubiliee.”

Somehow I don’t think she means Queen Liz.

Rumours have been swirling that Breakfast‘s Paul Henry would land the role. A prime time gig might help the ailing morning show to attract some new viewers. TEN has even been declining interviews for Henry, despite the fact the show has been pulling audiences around 30,000 viewers a day.

While Henry can be smart and funny he can also be polarising, all of which would suit the brief of CoW -unless there would also be a risk of the host upstaging the guests. And could Andrew Denton defend suggestions of a ‘shock jock’ host?

But there’s no guarantee he will land the role -at 51, he’s nowhere near celebrating his diamond jubilee.

Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson “sacked himself” as CoW late last year, but will remain involved creatively, along with Zapruders.

Read this morning that Jono Coleman has been signed to Ten. While he seems like a fun guy, I hope he’s not the front runner for this role. Henry would be a much better fit!

I forgot Breakfast was still on the air until I read this story.

LOL at Andrew Bolt as host, but now that I think about it, he woudn’t be half bad. I’d love to see him as the Beast if they ever revive Beauty and the Beast.

The fact that CoW is produced by Zapruder and not Ten itself doesn’t necessarily mean that Henry is a shoe in.

Paul Henry would be great, so would Denton. But I think Henry will get it. He would be great at this show.

I predict Paul Henry. No surprises.

Could it be Denton given his abc show is doing so badly? I hope so!!! Henry thinks he is funnier than he really is. Come on andrew. Give it a go.

    So…. not Andrew Bolt then?

I’m pretty sure it will be Henry as they need to raise his profile, and Jacoby is being as loose with her maths as she is with her spelling (only one ‘i’ in “jubilee”). It’s won’t be Negus – not a good fit and he’s ten years beyond his 60th.

I imagine this is all a lot of media spin and it will still be Paul Henry. Breakfast needs a lift big time and this could just be it. If you watch the banter between Meshel Laurie and him when Breakfast crosses to The Circle, the pair would be a perfect match for CoW.

Another option that might fit the age required though could be the long forgotten George Negus, maybe?

CoW – good show! Was looking froward to series 2 but if you’re correct about Paul Henry, there goes another good show to the dustbin of history!

    So… not Ed Kavalee then?
