TEN chopper crashes, crew ok.

A TEN News cameraman and pilot escaped uninjured after a TEN helicopter made a crash landing in Perth.

2013-01-19_2344A TEN News cameraman and pilot escaped uninjured after a TEN helicopter made a crash landing while filming a story at Baskerville, east of Perth yesterday.

“Our TEN News Perth helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing earlier today after encountering some issues mid-flight,” a network spokesperson said.

“Luckily both the pilot and camera operator were unharmed,” the spokesperson said.

”The camera operator was taken to hospital for a check-up as a precautionary measure, however has since been given the all clear and released.”

A Nine reporter who witnessed the crash told 6PR that as the helicopter rolled onto its side the cameraman tore off his harness and got clear of the chopper.

A Seven News crew, which was also on site covering the same story about a truck rollover, even managed to capture the moment on film.

  1. Ten News Perth returned to the Dianella studios on 23 June 2008 with Narelda Jacobs as anchor. “Not that long ago” is actually 4.5 years. It was read from Sydney until the Perth studios were converted to digital. Perth’s Ten News at Five constantly has more viewers than STW9 News at 6pm. Reading an autocue and playing out news items matters little, whether it be from Sydney or Perth. The raw material is still gathered in Perth by Perth news people……of course.

  2. Glad no-one was hurt.

The dangers of flying your helicopter to the actual site of the story instead of hovering over the helipad “near” the action…
