Adelaide weather doyenne to retire

Network TEN's Jane Reilly will retire after 37 years on television.

2013-02-24_0049Network TEN’s Jane Reilly, who has been bringing the weather to viewers for 37 years, will retire from television in April.

“After working for 37 years full time on Adelaide TV, much of the time here with my friends at TEN, I have decided to retire from television,” Reilly told adelaidenow.

“It’s been a very hard decision to make, as I absolutely love working for Network TEN and I have many loyal fans, who I know will be surprised by this announcement.”

The move sees her joining FIVEaa breakfast show, alongside Keith Conlon.

TEN’s Adelaide general manager, Frank Filosi, said, “We wish her all the success with her new career and look forward to continuing our close relationship with Jane in the future.”

She will be replaced by reporter Kate Freebairn in April.

  1. I love Jane Reilly. I remember in a weather segment around 10 years ago she was trying to stifle her laughter because the maximum temperature on that day was 33.3 which came at 3:33pm.

  2. @jonasboi: 5AA is the #1 breakfast station in Adelaide. Given the early hours and the station’s ratings she’s probably earning a lot more there when compared to presenting the weather segment on the fourth ranked TV network. Best to get out of Ten before she gets pushed out by the next round of budget cuts. And she is no stranger to breakfast radio, for a while she was doing the breakfast show with John Blackman on MMM.

Outside of SA a lot of viewers may remember her from hosting Fat Cat And Friends back in the ’70s and ’80s.

  3. So I am guessing she took the redundancy deal, why else would you leave an evening job to do breakfast radio, on talk back radio…

I wish her all the best, she is the best dam weather reporter in this country.

  4. And of course, she does rather more than read the weather. For eastern seaboard readers, Jane is a school teacher by training, and was Miss Australian Beach Girl way back in the 1970s.

  5. A dignified exit from a dignified lady.

I’ve watched her present the weather for many years.

The time’s right and better to jump on your own terms than wait to be pushed, especially give the unceremonious dumping of Georgina McGuinness by Ch 9 in 2011.
