Bumped: The Amazing Race

Seven bumps the show back to 5:30pm Sundays on 7mate.

2013-02-27_0036It wasn’t exactly a glorious start for The Amazing Race‘s 22nd season on 7mate last Sunday.

Just 85,000 tuned in, prompting Seven to bump the show from its 6:30pm start to 5:30pm as of next Sunday.

A movie Land of the Lost takes its place at 6:30pm followed by American Pie at 8:30pm.

Just a wild guess, but could it be that not enough people knew the Amazing Race was even on?

  1. Yeah, I concur with all the other posters, if it was not for TV Tonight I would have had no clue it was being aired here (thank you, David!).

That must surely be very worrying for Seven – they should not have to rely on third-party websites to keep their viewers updated!

  2. @ Mark : You don’t check this site much do you? I like the time change as am usually not home Sunday nights and like to record Bondi Rescue and Modern Family.

  3. Like most other comments made, I only knew this program was scheduled thanks to this website. Not concerned about the earlier Sunday start, as long as the program is shown consistently. We can only hope!

  4. @ carolemorrisey Yes a better time so it does not clash with other shows at 6.30. We should be grateful it is fast tracked, it is on in HD and it is on at all!!!!

  5. At least it’s still on, 5.30pm on a Sunday is a bit usual, bit it’s better than having it on late at night on the main channel. I think the show will stay at 5.30pm for the remainder of the season because it’s outside of Primetime ratings, so it won’t really matter how many viewers tune in.

  6. If it was not for this site, I would not have known. The primary channel needs to advertise what is on their digital channels, just like the digital currently advertise for the primary.

  7. I have never Ever known a channel to chop and change its programming as much as 7Mate does. I try to be a regular viewer, but even I struggle to keep up with what is on.

The guide rarely matches what is shown and it seems like things are just changed constantly at the last minute. No planning at all = no idea.

    A very disgruntled viewer.

  8. Actually that suits me more, there is too much on at 6.30 on Sunday nights. Now I can watch it live. Yeah I guess it’s possible a lot of people didn’t realise it was back, not everyone knows about this site and there was zero promotion for it. Usually 7 has a big advertising blitz for it a couple of weeks before it starts, but because it was on 7mate they didn’t bother.

  9. I agree with your guess – no promotion what-so-ever – I am a big fan but I only knew about it due to this website. So they put it on when the news is on and expect more viewers? Strange decision but I guess given 7’s treatment, I should just be thankful they are showing it at all.

No wonder people go online to watch these shows illegally.

  10. Thanks for letting us know. I saw a few ads for The Amazing Race on Channel 7 and 7two. I don’t mind the new time as it doesn’t clash with The Block. Maybe 7 could repeat it at some point for those who missed it?

  11. The networks really need to do a better job cross-promoting their channels. While it is reasonably common to see a “main channel” promo on a digital channel, it is rare to see the reverse.
