Rhys Muldoon as Mark_Househusb12-72Nine has announced the return of its hit drama House Husbands, in a move from Sundays to Mondays this year.

A News Limited article today suggested Nine had pushed back several of its series, including House Husbands, but Nine its return on April 8th has proven that was off the mark.

A new school year, a new house, a marriage on the rocks, a father facing ‘the snip’ and a birthday party that goes horribly wrong… the House Husbands are back! Returning for a second season, the boys and their families are set for an even bigger year with a surprise in store for everyone

After Gemma’s (Julia Morris) mother arrives unexpectedly, Lewis (Gary Sweet) confronts losing one of the most important people in his life. Justin (Firass Dirani) struggles to provide a new home for his family while Mark (Rhys Muldoon) faces an operation that could change his and Abi’s (Natalie Saleeba) future.

The Crabb house is bursting at the seams with Phoebe (Georgia Flood) and her new baby Jem in the mix, when Gemma’s mum Wendy (Geraldine Turner) arrives on their doorstep. Lewis and Gemma are so frazzled they forget Tilda’s birthday, so cobble together an ad-hoc party which is overshadowed by rival school mum Dimity (special guest star Madeleine West).

Meanwhile Justin and Nicola (Leah de Niese) are crammed into a one-bedroom rental and need a new house to live in. The House Husbands leave Tilda’s disastrous birthday party to try and buy Justin a new family home, but get held up – at gunpoint. Will Justin be able to build his family their dream home?

After their pregnancy scare at the end of season one, it’s been decided Mark needs a vasectomy. Ultimately, Abi realises she does want another child, and races in to stop the surgery. Will she get there in time?

8:40pm Monday April 8 on Nine.

  1. So what are Nine going to show on Sundays?

They struggled with Sunday night until House Husbands last year and The Mentalist is not rating well. TBBT had been doing quiet well against Revenge and Four Corners.

They have Arrow and The Following, which would compete directly against Elementary. But I would have thought launching a new show against DA, Call The Midwife and Elementary would be tough and they would do better following The Voice.

  2. Revenge’s ratings dropped of in the middle of the series in the US. Last weeks flashbacks with in flashbacks episode was silly and over the top. But its ratings have picked up for the final block.

  3. @ David: I expected A Place to call home to replace Downtown too. So good on 9 for not wanting to clash two Aussie shows against each other!
Timeslot changes aren’t good though, hope both rate well!

  4. House Husbands could definitely compete with Revenge, which is on the decline in both storylines and ratings.

The move also means that The Voice performance show won’t be on Mondays this year – unless they intend to subject House Husbands to later start times.
