This follows speculation of a planned $4 billion merger between Nine Entertainment Co and Southern Cross Media Group.

The Australian reports that even Seven chairman Kerry Stokes and chief executive Don Voelte have taken active roles in lobbying Canberra.

A spokesman for Seven said: “We are concerned that debate around the 75 per cent reach
A TEN spokesperson said: “We are opposed to any legislation going through without careful and diligent consideration inclusive of the entire legislative framework that governs the industry.

“This is what the convergence review was meant to do but by changing only one or even two elements in isolation is entirely inappropriate, and even dangerous.”

The Gillard government is preparing to sign off on media reforms this week with Cabinet set to meet tomorrow.

  1. Fairfax and News have also launched complaints about Conroy’s proposed privacy provisions and his government appointed panel to determine the truth, that will stop reporting of news.

    Fairfax will also protest against the rumoured two media rule. There is no reason why Fairfax starting a Pay TV channel or buying Ten, which would benefit consumers.

    News will protest about everything.
