Updated:Â In the latest twist in the court case underway in Sydney, it’s emerged that Melissa Doyle was once considered a replacement for Mel B as a co-host for Dancing with the Stars.
According to the Daily Telegraph, “it was during the cross-examination of another witness, Channel 7 production and rights manager Therese Hegarty that the option of using Doyle was raised in court, but email evidence confirmed that (head of production Brad) Lyons had deemed the show did not fit Doyle’s schedule.”
On February 26 Lyons wrote to manager Stephen Belafonte saying, ”We want to be clear that should Mel become available to work in Australia during the relevant period, it is with the Seven Network.”
But a confused Belafonte told the court,”I said, ‘How are we being released if we’re not doing a deal?'”
He also suggested replacement judges in Sugar Ray singer Mark McGrath and rapper Lil Kim.
He also said Seven had been desperate to keep news of Mel B’s departure a secret after Nine had secured Ricky Martin on The Voice.
The case is continuing.
Corrected.

Aren’t people bored of seeing the same people on every single show? They have the same hosts and judges go from show to show, and then each of those people works on two or three shows. They need to mix it up and get some fresh meat, and then not over use them. Instead of having Kyle on every show, give someone new a chance. If they don’t work out, replace them. American Idol gets new people every couple of years, cause we get bored of the same people every year.
IIRC, Sam Armytage was a contestant in a past series? It might sway me to watch if she got air time every few mins! 😉
Throw Mel A. from Darwin’s Hot100FM into the mix and you have a choice of Mel
A
B
C
D
None of the above
I can see Russia from here ‘moment’.
Yeah, was a bit perplexed by this. Was wondering why would she be involved with X factor? Then realised it only meant dancing with the stars which I could see her fitting on.
lol, although Ellen was a judge on American Idol for a season,..so, anything is possible.
Not sure about Mel for DWTS either, that role needs someone a bit cheekier. Nat or Sam from Sunrise could suit.
I can’t see Mel Doyle ever, ever wanting to do that.
LOL. I better check the date. Someone has been working too many hours. Clearly it should have read Gina Rinehart to replace Mel B.
Apologies!
What? Melissa Doyle mentoring upcoming singers based on her vast experience in the recording industry. Pfft.
Huh? Melissa Doyle on the X Factor? As a judge?
Is that a joke?
Don’t you need some sort of musical credentials to be a judge on a singing talent show?
LOL Are you serious? Melissa Doyle? Uh no, just no!
April Fools Day was last Monday David.
Sounds like a case of mistaken. Mel B. Mel C. Or is it Mel D. to me!!!!
I might be misinterpreting the article but where in it does it say that they were considering Mel Doyle for X Factor. All it says in the article is that they were considering using Mel Doyle for DWTS.
Mel Doyle on XF or DWTS, hosting/judging!!!! Is this an encore of April 1st?
