Melissa Doyle begins final week on Sunrise

Melissa Doyle will bid farewell to Sunrise as co-host of 14 years on Friday.

2013-08-04_0110Melissa Doyle will bid farewell to Sunrise as co-host of 14 years on Friday (that’s an awful lot of early morning rises).

But she will remain connected to the show with special reports on big news stories.

The Sunday Telegraph reports she begins a prime-time news post in two weeks time -will Seven also announce other changes to its early evening schedule?

Doyle denied the relentless rumour mill which has been in overdrive since her announced departure, saying of co-host David Koch, “I cannot state strongly enough: I have never, ever had any problems with my relationship with Kochie.

“He is honestly one of my dearest friends. He held farewell drinks for me at his house yesterday. He said to me, ‘It has to be my house. Not at a restaurant. Not a venue. My home. Because we are family’.

“And we are family. We have spent 14 years sitting next to each other. We have stood in fire zones and flood zones.”

No doubt there will be tears at Martin Place on Friday and hopefully an end to unwarranted stories. It’s only breakfast television after all!

  1. I only used to watch Sunrise because I couldn’t stand what the others didn’t have to offer, and then Samantha Armytage wormed her way in, after being made look good while ” Working Off” Andrew O’Keefe, and she was the reason I would only tune into W/End Sunrise to see if she was still there and tune out again if she was/is.
It is now very obvious she is out of her depth and just sits next to Kochie, where the only time she has showed her true form and even came across with much enthusiasm was when she co-hosted with Kochie at the ‘ Rooty Hill RSL’ ,when Network Seven, ably assisted by this ” Dynamic Duo” who snipped in all their glory, attempting to hijack PM Ms Julia Gillar’s visit. Sadly now every time I see Samantha Armytage, I only see a younger version of Prue McSween and this includes her political right wing opinions.

  2. One thing this whole saga has made me realise is just how many capable women there are on Australian tv in contrast to men. Mel quits and there seems to be a list of about 8 womens names thrown around in the reshuffle. Sam, Nat, Bec, Kylie, Kellie, Jess, ect. If David Koch quit I don’t think there are any names that stand out as a decent replacement.

  3. David I will give you a swipe at Denyer. Why is he returning to TV? Slide +Denyer = Must not see TV.
Hope Mel does well in the wilderness of 7TWO. Not a Sunrise fan so don’t really care as Kochie is still there.

  4. I thnk mel will just be in tears on friday. I expect a lot of flashbacks and laughs.

It will be sad but I think Sam will be great and we will get used to her. It sort of helped that mel was away for a few weeks so we can get used to Sam and Kochie together.

Plus Nat is still there and I love her sense of humour.

  5. (Nice swipe at Denyer in the last line there! 😉 )
I actually appreciate Mel & Kochie’s chemistry and wish Mel all the best. As a loyal Sunrise viewer, Kochie and the audience have a rare opportunity to take time to develop a new relationship and a new dynamic with Sam Armytage. It’ll take a little time but so did Mel & Kochie.
