Packer & Gyngell fined $500

James Packer & David Gyngell have been fined $500 but avoided a charge of assault or affray.

Screen Shot 2014-05-09 at 2.19.32 pm.jpgJames Packer and David Gyngell have now been fined $500 following their street brawl in Bondi last week.

But they avoided a charge of assault or affray for the now-notorious incident.

“Police today issued a 46-year-old man and a 48-year-old man with a Criminal Infringement Notice for offensive behaviour,” police said in a statement.

The penalty notice carries a fine of $500 if it goes uncontested by the recipient.

Nine CEO David Gyngell has accepted full responsibility for the fight but neither man wanted to lay charges.

A Nine Network spokesperson said in a statement: “Police have issued an infringement notice payable by a $500 fine by each party.

“There is no conviction nor any charges laid.

“Mr Gyngell is pleased the process is now resolved.”

  1. Their PA’s will take that out of petty cash..
But I have to agree with Dalmanic…a bit of a dust up between two mates….the whole thing over blown….your house or mine at the Barby…would not rate a 2nd look….not condoning violence…just saying.

  2. This is terrible news. Just terrible. How are these two men supposed to recover from that massive $500 fine? Don’t the cops realise they have a family and kids to feed (albeit someone else’s in the case of Packer)? This must be their worst day ever!

  3. I’m shocked! What sort of a nanny state do we live in?
Unprovoked attacks on strangers are different, but two friends having a spat with neither making an official complaint? No way is any action warranted, let alone a piddly fine.
    Stupid stupid stupid.
