Renewed: Rectify

US drama starring Aden Young, which screened on SBS, is getting a third season.

2014-01-21_1442US drama Rectify has been approved for a third season by SundanceTV.

The series, which features Aussies Aden Young and Adelaide Clemens, premiered on SBS in January. Young plays Daniel Holden who, after 19 years in prison for the rape and murder of his girlfriend, is released when new DNA evidence reveals he was wrongly accused.

Season Two, which was approved prior to its debut season here, is currently airing in the US at 10 episodes.

Rectify has evolved into a show much loved by critics and fans. As SundanceTV’s first scripted series, it’s gratifying to see such distinctive and unusual storytelling embraced with such passion. Ray McKinnon is a true television auteur, and we can’t wait to see where he takes us next,” said Sarah Barnett, SundanceTV President.

Rectify was certainly a slow-burner as a drama series and unsurprisingly, its ratings for SBS were pretty modest.

Do we have any love in the room for this show?

  1. I stuck it out to the end, but I hated season 1. I didn’t particularly enjoy experiencing a trip to Walmart virtually in realtime and found some of the plot points way too contrived (a woman offering herself to a convicted sex offender?)

  2. Loved it. Hands down one of the best new shows this year. I am really hoping S2 will be on soon, on SBS of course. Any airdate given? Perhaps after Masters of Sex has finished its run. Pretty sure this is what occurred last time.

I am not surprised it does not get much love, perhaps the way the story is drawn out is a bit slow for some people. Def has some love from me.

  3. Well I liked it. It was a little odd in places and I normally don’t like things to move too slowly but I liked the atmosphere in this. I thought the character of Daniel’s step-brother’s wife was really well-drawn and played.

I haven’t gone and chased it up anywhere and have been waiting for S2 to show up on SBS.

  4. Nice idea, visuals and atmosphere. The plots moves at a snails pace and works by contrived concealing information. My attention span was waning the end of S1.
