Jacki Weaver lands role with Patrick Stewart in US comedy

Jacki Weaver will play a manager, and former flame, of a UK newsman trying to make it big in America.

2013-11-19_1336Jacki Weaver has her first principal role in a US comedy series, starring opposite Patrick Stewart in Blunt Talk, from Seth MacFarlane and Jonathan Ames (Bored To Death).

The Starz series has a 20-episode, two-season, straight-to-series order.

Deadline reports the show is a character-driven comedy revolving around Walter Blunt (Stewart), “an infrequently sober but legendary British import intent on conquering the world of American cable news.” Apologies to Piers Morgan….?

The series follows the fallout from Blunt’s well-intentioned but mostly misguided decision-making, both on and off the air. Jacki Weaver will play his straight-talking, tough and motherly producer-manager Rosalie Winter. They have been working together for 20 years and once had a one-night stand.

British actor Adrian Scarborough (The King’s Speech) plays “Walter’s manservant, Harry Chandler (who rivals him in debauchery).”

Jacki Weaver, who had a recurring role in Rebel Wilson’s Super Fun Night, also appears in Gracepoint, the US version of Broadchurch, which will air in Australia on Universal next month.
