AFL Footballer David Rodan has won Dancing with the Stars for 2014.
He defeated Home and Away‘s Lynne McGranger to take the mirror ball trophy.
The final two acts performed three dances across the 2.5hr finale including a freestyle and favourite repeat.
Rodan scored several perfect 4×10 scores in the final, but was lost for words by the accolade.
“I’m very happy,” he said.
Judge Todd McKenney said, “It’s just been so great seeing a bloke embrace dance.
“You’ve never baulked on anything. You’ve jumped in, sprayed yourself with sequins and we’ve loved you for it.”
“You have a lovely humility,” Helen Richey added.
The grand final also had its own technical hiccup when audio for an interview between Daniel MacPherson and Charli XCX was out of sync with the vision, causing social media to light up. But the segment had been filmed earlier, despite the “Live” watermark -a trick many talent shows use.
The series has been the lowest rating of all 14 seasons -but 14 is an exemplary figure for the perennial Reality series.
It was also notable for several early exits, starting with Paul Fenech who quit before the show even premiered. He was followed by Kyly Clarke and Torah Bright -both for injury.
But it was Mark Holden’s bizarre clown meltdown that upstaged the dancing, which will go down as one of the year’s train-wreck television moment.
This post updates.

Haven’t watched this since series 3 but watched this year after catching David dancing in the first week. He was so good, the best ever I think. He was so enjoyable to watch and best compliment I can give him is …he made me smile. Well done David!
@Johnson
Thanks. Sorry not an AFL fan.
Thought all the contestants were really good this time with the exception of Mark Holden being rather stupid, in my opinion was the best series so far for having so many good dancers and all being very entertaining. Hope it continues again next year, great family entertainment and such a fun show. Loved it.
@ilovetv: David played for Richmond, Port Adelaide and Melbourne and retired in 2012. If you are an AFL fan you may have heard of him.
I can see how lynne got the viewer vote. She has an infectious personality and is popular with home and away. also poor carmello has been there since the beginning and never made the gf. But well done to david. Nice to see the best dancer win.
Thanks ilovetv for your token comment someone always seems to drag out whenever a story about DWTS appears. For balance I would just like to say I have heard of everyone who appeared in this season and thought David was incredible and deserved to win. He should really continue on dancing after the show.
Considering every year he performs very well on the Footy Show revue, I would have been more shocked if he didn’t win this season once I saw the names.
Ricki-Lee really should’ve won she was most improved or at least top 2! I voted like 100 times weird.
David who? Never heard of him (nor anyone from this program)
I thought Ricki-Lee would win for sure.
Also, minor detail but it’s actually Charli XCX.
This season was much, much better than last, very entertaining! Ricki-Lee deserved to be in the final 2, but you always need your token Channel 7 celebrity to be there at the end.
A fantastic series of DWTS this year (despite Mark Holden’s douchery). Congrats to David and Mel. Thoroughly deserved win. Was a little sad to see Ricki-Lee not make the final 2 though.
I reckon an all stars season for the 15th and final season of this next year. Either way though, most shows can only dream of 14 seasons.
Hasn’t been shown here yet in WA…
