Screen Actors Guild Awards 2015: winners

Winners: Orange is the New Black, Downton Abbey, Kevin Spacey, Frances McDormand.

2015-01-26_1713Orange is the New Black led the television winners at yesterday’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards.

The show won the Comedy ensemble award while Uzo Aduba (pictured, centre) won the Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Comedy Series for her performance as “Crazy Eyes.”

Modern Family, which had the most TV nominations in 4 categories, missed out on all 4.

The Downton Abbey cast won the Drama ensemble award.

Sadly, this year the awards were not screened on Australian TV, but E! reports there wasn’t a dry eye in the room when Uzo Aduba accepted her award.

“Oh my God. I really, truly do not know what to say,” she said, choking back tears. “I just wanna say thank you so much to the Screen Actors Guild for this incredible honour. I want to thank Jenji Kohan for writing a show like this and putting something like this on television, not just for myself but for our incredible team of actors to be seen in such a beautiful way. ”

Viola Davis from How to Get Away With Murder praised the show’s creators and producers “for thinking that a sexualized, messy, mysterious woman could be a 49-year-old dark skinned African American woman who looks like me.”

And Frances McDormand said of Olive Kitteridge, “You can stream it, I don’t know how.”

  1. It continues to amaze and disappoint, the lack of “true” recognition Tatiana Maslany and Orphan Black receive.
Apart from several Canadian and a critics choice awards its pretty much zilch for this talented actress and top notch show.
