Melbourne-based animators Ivan Dixon and Paul Robertson, who made their own version of The Simpsons opening sequence in 1980s-style Pixel Art, have been given the ultimate honour -invited to be used in an actual episode.
Since uploading it to YouTube two weeks ago, the clip has attracted more than 2 million views and an email from the show’s creators.
“The email went to my spam folder, so I actually thought it was a hoax, ” Dixon tells Fairfax.
“We secretly hoped they would pick it up, but it all came so fast.”
Their Rubberhouse animation studio has previously worked with Vice, Warner Brothers and Cartoon Network.

If I were the producer, I’d use the entire couch sequence uncut. It’s inventive, surreal and includes other show characters.
Who needs HD? CGA Rules, OK!
That reminds me, I must dig out some old Roberta Williams games.
That was stonkingly good!
How cool was that!!!
Wow! That’s great news for Ivan and Paul!
Excellent clip and great news the creators will be using it.
This is awesome. Can they make a video game in this style too? It would be epic.
