Wentworth fans took to social media last night full of praise for the show’s Season Three finale, which put key characters in major jeopardy.

‘Blood & Fire’ saw Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe), Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) and Franky Doyle (Nicole da Silva) all trapped as the prison roof came tumbling down. But it was only one of several storylines reaching a crescendo.

The episode appeared to include an exit and a death and a major fall from grace -all of which left fans breathless.

    1. Yeah, I thought that, too. That was a smidge too “happily ever after”. If anything, considering the feverish reception the parent series has had, could there be potential for a Frankie Doyle spin-off mini series?

    1. seasons 1 and 2 are available on DVD Gaz season 3 should be out later this year usually around september i have to get them on DVD as well i dont have foxtel either

  1. Incredible finale set up with such rich potential in season 4. My only gripe is that Will Jackson was still allegedly in custody so shouldn’t have been on duty when the fire was happening but apart from that, I am absolutely rabid for the stories to continue. Bravo, Wentworth. Bravo!

  2. Kudos to Foxtel for supporting Australian drama. Very little over the past few years has been ‘must see tv’ for me, for the past 12 weeks at 8:30 on Tuesday I have been doing exactly the same thing. I need to see Wentworth as it screens – no timeshifting or the risk of having spoilers!

Season 3 especially I found was brilliant, as much as I love Pamela Rabe and her awesome take on the freak, I don’t think you can single out any one cast member being better than another as everyone was pivotal to tell the story, and they all played their parts perfectly. Also IMHO scripts, camera, editing and generally the whole production was some of the best ever to be produced in Australian Drama. As I said to a friend who hasn’t watched it – “it’s not just ‘Aussie good’, it’s proper good!”.

  3. Reminds me of season finales for Prisoner back in the day – you’d be watching knowing something big would happen at the end and being stressed about what that would be. No other drama seems to do anything like that these days. Long wait for S4!

  4. It was a fab finale. Pleased to see my tip of a fire last year came to fruition, although yes I thought it would be bigger. Had also expected to see a major character bumped off, but it was not to be. No complaints, they did a great job.

    1. Yeah, I went in expecting Franky to be bumped off, so was pleasantly surprised, sad to see it looked like the natural conclusion to Franky’s storyline though as Nicole da Silva was a superb part of that ensemble.

  5. It was brilliant and yes Pamela rabe deserves awards. I thought the freak was going to die but I reckon she’ll be back for revenge or will she be a prisoner? The fire was a bit low budget compared to coronation street that was on last week. It only looked like a small area was burnt out but we are expecting a whole new prison next season

  6. A great season finale and good to see The Freak will still be in it next year.
Wonder if they’ll have a male Governor next season just for a change.

  7. Certainly a fantastic series and great season finale. There is no other Australian show comparable to this kind of intense drama, and the short seasons keep it tight and continuously enthralling. I have started to watch OITNB, and man is that one damn boring show, I’m 5 episodes in and there is nothing so far that I have enjoyed. Wentworth beats the pants off it. I had expected the fire in last night’s episode to take hold in more parts of the prison due to the fact they are moving locations, but I assume now that it will be explained that Block H was damaged and that will reflect the set change.

    1. keep watching oitnb. The first few episodes are boring but the rest and season 2 are amazing. wentworth is an amazing show and provably the best australian drama that i have seen
