Nine News weather presenter Livinia Nixon was in the right place at the right time when Melbourne presenter Peter Hitchener was momentarily without voice last night.

‘Hitch’ was suddenly unable to speak, towards the end of the Live bulletin.

“I was reading about two cranes collapsing in The Netherlands, we had extraordinary pictures, and suddenly my voice decided not to work. I tried to keep going, but it wouldn’t work! I had a little cough and it still wouldn’t work!,” he told TV Tonight.

“Fortunately Livinia motioned to me that she was ready to takeover and she did a fabulous job.”

He put the mishap down to ‘a frog in the throat.’

“That’s all it was. I haven’t even got a cold,” he said.

“It’s never happened before.

“I really didn’t know what to do because I couldn’t even throw to a commercial break because I couldn’t speak!

“It just proved what a wonderful team I work with. Livinia handled it like a trouper and Tony Jones, my colleague, came in afterwards and at the end of the bulletin he and Livinia had big glasses of water to make sure I could manage. So it was all good fun.”

  1. I don’t get to watch the news each night,,,but Lavinia is one of the most under utilised talents on OZ tv. She was great on Hey Hey all those years a go and still is. Nine should make Hitch and Livinia co News presenters. That would give Nine a point of difference with Seven news at 6pm. She is great.

  2. All She had to do was read an auto cue it’s not rocket science,it is her job. I could understand if the cameraman stepped in.Now that would have been a big deal.
