Ahead of its Australian premiere tomorrow night on ABC2, UK drama Humans has been renewed for a second season.

Based on the Swedish sci-fi Real Humans (which airs here on SBS), it has been renewed for another 8 episodes.

Featuring William Hurt and Colin Morgan the premiere episode was Channel 4’s highest rated original drama in 20 years, pulling in 18 percent of the U.K. viewing audience on Sunday nights. It also averaged 2 million US viewers on AMC.

Piers Wenger, Head of Drama at Channel 4 said, “Humans has proved a huge hit with both audiences and critics alike this summer and we owe a huge debt of gratitude to writers Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley and to the team at Kudos for bringing a truly unmissable show to life. It also marks a key moment for Channel 4 as we expand our remit for bold and original drama into the international, co-production space. We look forward to working with our partners AMC on series 2 of Humans and to more Synth-related adventures to come”.

It premieres on ABC2 at 8:30pm on Monday.

  1. Getting original drama credits is a bit rich, this is a duplicate.

The Swedish show explored many aspects of having robots, not just the AI gaining awareness aspect.

Hope they can portray the nuances and ethical problems humans and robots face as they did so well in the original Swedish series.
